My 2 cents worth. Before the KRA ever materialises, the mega port at Malacca will probably be one of the largest threats. Parts of it will be set up to service military warships.

Kra canal will never get ships to pay its exhorbitant charges to use it and save only 4 days sailing time. Suez and panama save 14 days sailing and even then, due to low oil, prices, ships are bypassing both.
Say 50% pf ships passing malacca straits belongs to china, in one stroke, they can make all these to use another port other than sinkie. So make sure don't piss them off.
