A popiah seller was stabbed at her Kopitiam stall at VivoCity on Friday afternoon (Feb 26). Her alleged assailant was said to be a jealous suitor. After accusing the 44-year-old victim, known to her colleagues as Ms Amin, of having a ''boyfriend on the side'' he pulled out a knife and stabbed her twice in the abdomen.
Ms Yuliana, a worker at the stall, told The New Paper that she did not recall seeing the man until Monday (Feb 22), when he tried to woo Ms Amin. Though she told him she was not interested in him, he persisted, showing up again on Wednesday (Feb 24) and also on Friday (Feb 26), when the situation turned violent.
Ms Amin was taken to Singapore General Hospital and successfully underwent a three-hour operation. The police said they received a call at 4.49pm and later arrested a 67-year-old suspect for voluntarily causing grievous hurt. Investigations are ongoing.
