After all, the PAP set their own pay for the positions of MPs and Minister. In fact, its passed by law and approved by the President. It basically says that all MPs MUST earn at least $17K a month. Not maybe, or possible or what not. But must minimally earn this. Also entry level Minister minimum pay is also passed by Parliament as law, and is set at $1.1 million. This is the minimum that a Minister can get paid, it cannot be less then this amount, and it can go much higher with bonuses and other pays. Make no mistake about it. It is a minimum wage in name, in law, and in function.

So, the question is why the PAP can legislate a minimum salary for themselves but cannot do the same for the rank and file sinkie worker? why will they not say the minimum wage is $5 an hour for unskilled and $10 and hour for skilled sinkie employees? I guess 70% sinkies are too stupid to see the double standard set by the PAP.

No one is better off without someone else being worse off?

The concept of sharing limited resources funded by taxpayers.

Immortals and mortals do not have same privilege.

The buzz words used are 'natural aristocracy'....:(:(:(

Natural Aristocracy is a concept not recognized in the Singapore constitution and only recognized in a few countries like North Korea. A govt that does not grasp and understand the concepts enshrined in the constitution is not fit to govern.

The resources are being shared, make no mistake about that. But is it being shared equitably?

Immortals and mortals do not have same privilege.

Immortals being the superior beings that they are, need no protection for themselves in the form of legislated minimum wages. The mortals on the other hand, being inferior, need all the protection they can get.

70% feel that the government is perfectly fit to govern.

So what, 17 million Germans voted for Hitler too. They felt he was perfectly fit to govern. They were stupidly wrong. Same for the 70 percent sinkies.

If government leaders and civil servants are not well paid, you end up getting a corrupt government where the bulk of the money is siphoned off. The Philippines have no navy or airforce, most of ASEAN countries infrastructure remains underdeveloped despite ample funding for this reason.

What was wrong with Hitler???

Theirs is not minimum wage. It's maximum wage, compared to the rest of the world. The "must earn at least" provision is simply to let the amount go as high as possible. ;)

Not really, theirs is a minimum wage. For example, the entry level Minister earns $1.1 million. That is his minimum wage. He cannot earn below this. But he has a KPI and can also much more if he meets it in the form of bonus and incentives pay. Take Lim Hng Kian for example. He is the minister of Trade and industry. SO, he is by law given a minimum salary. Then he can earn more from his KPIs. On top of that, he is on the BOD of GIC, Deputy Director of MAS, CEO of GIC Land Pte Ltd, and BOD of National Research Foundation. So how much more in Director Fees and other income is he deriving from all these sources? Add on top his SAF pension from the time he was a Scholar General and you can see his minimum minister pay really is the minimum that he can earn.

A minister in a third-world country or ASEAN country earns more, once you factor in all the bribes he or she has collected, or money siphoned from taxpayers.

MOST Sinkees are fatuous and they have chosen a fatuous pinkie leader.
What for now complain and grumble ?

u think if we pay our leaders and ceos such generous sums of money and compensation, they will also do likewise and take care of us in return by making sure our minimum wage is up there,u scrub mine and i scrub urs.......instead 70 percent vote for such a fucked up deal....omg,theres 170 countries out there there has to be at least 159 countries less retarded than this.

That's why it is only right for opposition supporters paying taxes to pay govt leaders well paid salaries to expect high standard and no cheating from them.

You see, my question is why don't oppo groups bring this point up during elections? After all, legislated salaries for Ministers is actually minimum wage. This salary cannot be reduced even for very very poor performance. Even without the oppo bringing this up, why can't the normal sinkie voter understand this point, and vote accordingly at the last GE? Why must a nobody like PAPsmearer bring this up in a forum like Sammyboy? Politician pay is the only wage in the whole country that is passed by law. No other industry has this. Some industry like airline industry have a pay scale for starting pilots and what not. But that is within the airline and determined by the airline and not by Parliament. And it differs from airlines to airlines. But politician pay is uniformly the same and legally binding.

If you are really capable, you should deserve to be paid millions.

That said, the progressive wage model by NTUC is an implicit acknowledgement that a min wage is necessary. Who knows without it, we are still paying our security guard less then 1.2k/month.

In the real world, if you are really capable, you should have demonstrated this in the field of your expertise. And demonstrated it so well that companies will seek you out to pay you millions. This is not really the case with the PAP, right? Just taking one example, Desmond Quek has not demonstrated any such expertise, yet he is paid $ millions.

The progressive wage model is a joke. It would be good if it benefited sinkies. But how many of them want to do minimum entry level jobs like security guard. The real sinkies needing protection are PMETs, middle level management, and white collar jobs holders which have been under pressure from FT imports with dubious academic qualifications.
