SINGAPORE: Sports Hub Pte Ltd confirmed on Friday (Dec 17) that two members of its senior management are “stepping aside” from their roles at the consortium.

Global Spectrum Pico managing director Mark Collins and Daphne Letourmel, who is director of contracts and compliance at Global Spectrum, respectively are leaving their positions at the consortium, which was formed to finance, operate and build the S$1.33 billion facility.

Global Spectrum Pico is one of four equity partners in the Sports Hub consortium, which had won the contract from the Government in 2007 to finance, build and operate the S$1.33 billion Hub over a 25-year period, with the public-private-partnership project touted as the largest in the world. The other partners are InfraRed Capital Partners, Dragages Singapore, and DTZ Facilities & Engineering (S) Limited.

Confirming the departures, a Sports Hub spokesperson said: “With immediate effect, Jason Hrick has taken over as acting Managing Director and will report to Manu Sawhney, CEO of Sports Hub Pte Ltd. An acting Director, Contracts and Compliance, will be appointed shortly.

“The team remains focused on ensuring a seamless and integrated delivery of world- class sports, entertainment and lifestyle events at Sports Hub.

“We will not be commenting any further on this internal matter.”

News of Collins’ departure from the Hub’s senior management team was met with disappointment and surprise, as the American – who had joined the consortium in 2006 – was popular and respected among his employees.

Sources familiar with the situation told TODAY that Mr Collins had been having disagreements with Mr Sawhney – who took over the post from outgoing CEO Philippe Colin-Delavaud in October – over the direction taken in recent discussions with event organisers and partners in staging events at the Kallang facility.

Two events – the Asia Masters Athletics Championships and the Merlion Cup football quadrangular – have had to seek alternative venues due high costs of renting the facility, and other issues.

Media rights company MP & Silva decided not to stage the Merlion Cup at the National Stadium after failing to come to agreement with the Sports Hub over a force majure clause in the contract. Prior to that, both organisations could not agree on the request for upfront payment of rental costs, believed to be about S$250,000.

Singapore Athletics have decided to seek another venue for the Asia Masters Championships after being told of a $600,000 bill to convert the stadium from football to athletics mode, as well as other variable costs.R

for starters, the grass on the football pitch in the stadium failed to grow and became a dustbowl, had to replace the whole damn thing with hybrid natural and artificial grass!

There's so many AngMor senior management staff at sports hub and so few sinkies. How can the Sports Hub be a flop?

Head is an Ah Neh lah. The good angmos quit, leaving the mediocre behind.

Sinkee is still calling the shots mah.

could the saga of over-charging for the ndp for what essentially is a pappy event and considered "home" ground, be a factor in asking these ang mohs to park themselves some place else
