It would be fair to say that following the massive train breakdown on the evening of 7 July, public calls for SMRT CEO Desmond Kuek and Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew to step down would be futile. There has been no such precedence in Singapore, and coming so close to a general election, it would be highly unlikely for a face-conscious ruling People’s Action Party to make such a public display of justice.

That said, we now have assurance that Kuek will investigate the breakdown and hopefully, more will come to light and the appropriate penalties made. Perhaps giving up a part of his massive salary would assuage commuters that he is assuming responsible leadership, and defray accusations that train fares were increased to line the pockets of stakeholders rather than be used to improve service.

In essence, Kuek still has his job, and there is currently no reason to believe that he would step down any time soon. The job of the Transport Minister, however, deservers some scrutiny.

Lui has thus far done little more than express “extreme concern” over the breakdown, and....

Listen to how this motherfucking Lui bullshitting the house back in 2011

We need a transport minister as much as we need a toilet minister.

PAP sells to the world how efficient they are. The reality is far from the truth.

Eg. We have town councils, mayor and Municipal Office ...three entities to handle management of estates. How many ministers do you need to handle estates affairs? Currently 3! That's who inefficient sinkapore is.

Fortunately for the PAP, the world can't be bothered with the affairs of sinkapore. So, they just take the propaganda dished out by the PAP as fact.

That's why the world thinks so highly of sinkapore.

Seriously, the broader question is whether we need so many jiakliaobees on public payroll? Mayors, Ministers, 2nd Ministers, Junior ministers, Minister without Portfolio, Secretary Generals, Directors and the list goes on. We are just a tiny island bloated by opening the doors widely to new immigrants. No wonder sinkies are sinking under the weight. Frequent mrt service breakdowns is just one reminder:mad:

We seriously do not need any of them seriously, but they are seriously determined to make a seriously better life for themselves and their families, so we have to seriously allow them to continue. ::rolleyes::D
