[h=1]Electricity tariffs to increase 7.5% starting tomorrow[/h]admin / 18 hours ago June 30, 2015

Singapore’s state-owned electricity monopoly Singapore Power (SP) Services announced today that electricity tariffs will increase by 7.5% starting tomorrow (July 1). The new tariff rate will increase 1.54 cents/kWh from 20.87 cents/kWh to 22.41 cents/kWh.

SP Services said the new rate will be revised in the next quarter after September 30, and claimed that the 7.4% price raise is due to a 15.1% price increase in the cost of natural gas, based on a quarterly guideline set by the Energy Market Authority.

The average monthly electricity bill for a family living in a three-room HDB flat may go up by $4.46 as the 7.4% increase hits all households types from one-room flat to bungalow.
Below is the list of price hikes since the last General Election:

7.5% wtf!!!the only company that can jack up their prices 7.5% in one go and get away with it is apple Inc.does the moronic government linked companies know how to hedge against commodities prices in order to protect against price fluctuations so they dont have hike prices every 3 quarter full moon and expect the public to save their ass?this 7.5% price hike is going to have massive butterfly effect.soon the train company running on 26.4 kwh train tracks is going to have to jack up prices or we gonna have to get out and push the train.

i am going to get a bicycle and ride to east coast park or orchard.

SG50 celebration. HUAT AH !

Ironically, it may be due to the splurging on SG50-related crap (e.g. SEA Games, Aussie BBQ) that requires the pappies to double up on extractive measures to recoup the money.

What is surprising is that they couldn't have at least waited till after the election to do so, adhering to historical trends. ;)

The election is more than a year away! There is always time for a tariffs to fall perhaps 2.5 percent before that in addition to some other goodies.

Is it becos all the power stations sold off to foreigners? How much say does SP services have in the electricity tariff setting?

Is it any wonder that Ho Ching has run road. They call it leave, but I wonder :confused: They have to hold the GE soon & maybe the LHL is preparing for the worst?

It wud be a blessing tat Ho Ching and his wife run road, Spore wud free itself frm the Familee's rule for good.

They will eventually have to run road because of too many questionable policies that have made them wealthy. I predict that by that time, any future opposition that takes over the gov't will have to clean up the mess.
This happened in the Philippines when Marcos left. The Philippines has not yet recovered & maybe that is why we have filipinos trying to take over Spore.
