During Parliament, Tan Chuan-Jin replied to a question about taxi drivers' incomes and the educational backgrounds of cabbies in Singapore. He said that taxi drivers working single shifts make an average income of $3,173 for a single-shift operation, and $5,933 for a two-shift operation. (Tan Chuan Jin: Double-Shift Taxi Drivers Make an Average $5,933 a Month)

He later clarified on Facebook that when he spoke about two-shifts, he didn't mean drivers who constantly worked double-shifts but instead that he meant cars which are driven and shared by 2 drivers so that the rental costs are shared instead. (Tan Chuan-Jin: I Didn't Mean Taxi Drivers Should Work Double Shifts)

On his Facebook post about the issue, several taxi drivers left comments and one particular driver, Justin Ng, explained that this amount that Minister Tan quoted for single-shift drivers was really only accurate for drivers who drive http://therealsingapore.com/content/taxi-driver-disputes-tan-chuan-jins-claims-about-cabbies-incomes

So, ministar just pluck some numbers from somewhere to support his case ...he pluck the wrong numbers.

In a real democracy, the ministar could be sanctioned for lying in Parliament.

Tan Chuan Jin talk cock lah... if he thinks cabbies 'jin ho tarn' why don't he quit being a shitty minister and instead drive a cab for a living?

He's deliberately plucking the 'wrong numbers' and using them to spin his narrative: the PAP govt has done a good job, everyone is prosperous and happy, and therefore should be grateful to the ruling establishment.

He should compare our taxi drivers with those in 1st world countries.
