SINGAPORE - In conjunction with the celebration of the Chinese New Year of the Goat, Wealth-X today released a list of the top 10 richest Chinese individuals in the world. Leading the list is Hong Kong business magnate Li Ka Shing, whose net worth stands at US$30.6 billion.
Ranking second is another Hong Kong tycoon, Lee Shau Kee, the chairman of Henderson Land Development, who has amassed a fortune of US$26.6 billion.
Following closely behind him is Alibaba chairman Jack Ma, whose net worth has surged to US$26.5 billion in the wake of the e-commerce giant's 2014 IPO, the largest in history.
Ma is one of four "technopreneurs" from China on the list. He is joined by Lei Jun, chairman of consumer electronics company Xiaomi; Robin Li, chairman and CEO of web services firm Baidu; and Pony Ma, chairman of internet firm Tencent Holdings.
At 43 years of age, Pony Ma is the youngest individual on the list, while Malaysia's "Sugar King" Robert Kuok is the oldest at 91.
All of the individuals on the list are self-made billionaires, and none of them were born in the Year of the Goat.
