SINGAPORE: The Registers of Electors for all 23 of Singapore's electoral divisions have been been certified. This is essentially an updated list of Singapore citizens who can vote.

The Elections Department said there are now 2,260,620 electors listed.

Those who want to look at the list can go to the Elections Department or any of the 105 Inspections Centres island-wide which are primarily community centres and clubs.

Singaporeans who want to check their names in the Registers can also do it online at www.elections.gov.sg.

Meanwhile, if you are an overseas voter, registration which commenced on March 3 will remain open.

Singaporeans overseas can still submit their applications online to the Elections Department or go to any of the nine Overseas Registration Centres.

The Elections Department has said updating the registers is a "routine exercise” which is required by law within three years of the last election in May 2006. - CNA/vm

what is the point of having 2.26m when only less than half got the chance to vote.

interesting, now we can finally estimate the number of Singaporeans, not including the PRs.

2.26M above 21 yrs old singaporeans + 21 x 20,000 (assuming 20k births a year) = approx 2.7M singaporeans.

some minister recently said there are 5M pple in s'pore. that means almost HALF are non singaporeans. no wonder this place getting so dam crowded.

You have to deduct those who remain on the electoral roll but essentially work, live and study overseas.

and there are ppl like me who cannot be bothered to check / verify if my name is there...no point becos i noe my GRC will walkover...as long as MM is there.

Can you imagine there are only so few citizens??

This national problem has to be put in proper context and cannot be taken lightly !!

That is why you do not need rocket science to deduce the reason as to why so many qualified and educated foreigners are "encouraged" to study, work and settle here as citizens and PRs.

The paramount reason is the extremely low birth rate and the increase in the number of aged Singaporeans.

The problems are exerbated by the increase in the rising number of old Singaporean singles and wretched divorcees here.

If the problem is left alone, this TINY red dot will become a GIANT old age home !!

adding new immigrants will only DELAY the inevitable. so what happens when we hit 6.5M +30 years? there'll be even MORE elderly and we'll become an even BIGGER old age home.

there is no solution to the problem created in the 70s/80s with the stop at 2 policy. what a terribly short sighted policy.

but the REAL problem is actually maintaining the chinese majority ain't it?
