Forget how young or old you are, forget about the difficulties that the journey poses, but think of the benefits of having a second chance or second life in a different place.
More than a decade ago, met a Malaysian chap whose wife and him were reaching their retirement age and spoke about migrating, I told my self that it would be difficult for them in view of their age. They were both 54. Somehow both managed to migrate to Sydney. He was a senior exe in a Malaysian stat board and the wife a lecturer. To cover expense,s he began working in a phone shop as a salaried salesman. The boss realised that elderly customers preferred to trust older sales people. He now works for a company that provides invigilators for Universities exams and over time has taken taken charge of other invigilators. He is busy, vibrant and enjoys life. Between exams he takes a break. He told me that exams are held frequently as they cover overseas and local board exams. Met up with him last year when he returned to visit his relatives.
Another Option:
Buy or rent a house with a garden in JB or a small town nearby. Spend the weekends there. Hear the crickets, savour the quietness and the smell of grass. Make it your little getaway - your slice of paradise. Start a marine aquarium, start to ride a motorbike, or go on little trips.
Those who can afford it, buy or rent a chalet in Bali and begin a second life. You do not have to move there permanently. The occasional trips and refresh and enjoy that second life. You earned it.
36 year old chap passes by one those exhibitions where they are selling properties overseas. Curiosity gets the better of him and checks it out. Tells his wife and they visit the place on a Saturday. Wife is keen. On Monday, he collects loan applications forms from various banks and sends in the applications that week. All the banks approve except OCBC approves it. He put down the deposit. He then plans to cut all unnecessary expenses to repay the bank loans. In one year, he clears the loans for the deposit. He now only has the mortgage. He told me that he does not gamble, drink and that is the first time he took so many loans for a deposit. A risk that he never took before or after since. A bit of boldness and a lot of decisiveness.
These are snippets that you can be part of. Just a bit of time this weekend and a bit of planning.
