On Sunday, at about 7.30pm, the police had received a call for assistance along Buffalo Road. Officers who went to the scene found the suspect who had allegedly assaulted an auxiliary police officer for questioning him over his behaviour. The suspect had behaved in an unsteady and disorderly manner and appeared drunk.
The suspect continued to behave in an aggressive manner and hurled vulgarities when they tried to arrest him. He was eventually subdued and placed under arrest.
In a statement on Tuesday, police said the suspect will be charged in court on the same day for disorderly behaviour in a public place, voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty, attempted voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant, use of criminal force against a public servant, and using abusive words towards a public servant. The offence of disorderly behaviour in a public place can warrant a fine of up to $1,000 or an one-month jail term.
