Singaporean parents vs FT parents

I suppose I am not in a position to say what is right or wrong way to bring up a kid as it all depends on the situation, and the circumstances surrounding it. Can't say whether it is right or wrong to be firm and assertive or to yield either, there will be many factors concerning any particular incident. As for our children, all I can say is that they should be left to decide what is right or wrong and react according to the circumstances they're faced with in that situation. It may be a situation whereby resistance may be futile and may even bring more harm to resist, so in those circumstances, might be wiser to let it go. However, where injustice or unfairness is the case, they should at least voice up against it and not agree with the aggressor and display sympathy and support for the victim.

Cheers!

That day I saw a FT kid about 8 or 9 years old with a FT mum and the kid was so aggressive and stared fiercely at an old man who wanted to take the seat next to her. The kid wanted to chope the seat for the mum who was behind. Never seen a local kid so fierce before, really scary.

One of the things you realise when posted overseas or living overseas is the number of western kids who suffer from disabilities of various kinds and these are not congenital but due to injuries suffered in accidents and mishaps. Climbing trees, fences and playing the hooligan and carrying out pranks that backfired badly. The Western parents will blame and sue everyone except themselves. I remember a kid scale a substation fences and got electrocuted. The parents won a lawsuit and he was still disabled. The number of western kids who are allergic so many things are unbelievable. The number of kids that suffer from ADHT disorder is so common that it is laughable. Moment you fail the first exam in primary school, the parents wants you to be classified as ADHT to get extra time during exams. Its like self fulfilling prophesy.

In Singapore the disability is either congenital or due to an illness if it is permanent, Most is fractures here and there.

Thankfully not all western parents are like that. The smart ones re just as strict but are more aware how to guide their kids and teaching creativity and speak up for themselves are 2 attributes in their culture.

Lucky in this case the old man got other seats to take. But I can imagine how fierce and fast this FT kid will grow up to be in snatching jobs, spouse, and everything in life haha.

This is interesting to know, oic so the western kids got many disabled due to lack of parental supervision. Yeah I remember few years ago seeing angmoh kids in Spore tanglin mall climbing on the floor and chairs inside the food court. The angmoh parents just let them be. So different from the Sg Chinese parents who will ask the children to sit properly. Maybe that is why angmoh kids grow up with creativity since they are not stifled with rules since young.
