Proper usage of the word "Like"

I go around hearing many people, especially students and young adults, using the word "like" in between sentence. E.g. He is like kind of handsome, I was like stunt.. Why can't it be He is handsome, I was stunt ? Is this being taught in school ? Will teacher marking English exam papers correct them :confused::*:
 
ya....you can hear this on tv too....so i guess the influence is from there.....damn irritating when they speak like that.

I thought maybe they are not assured of what they are saying, so they inserted a "like" in between. If not assured then don't say lah lol
