0 Singaporeans First Party should hire a lawyer. To sue their designer.

Wall’s ice cream has a strong case to make in what appears to be a less-than-subtle copyright infringement of their logo.
This after the ice cream brand’s logo appears to have been plagiarised by Singapore’s newest political party, Singaporeans First Party.
Mei Chuan Yi, a intellectual property lawyer, said: “Wah lau eh, like that cannot lah.”
However, this is not the first time political outfits have tried to pass off corporate logos as their own.
Previously, citizen website, The Online Citizen, borrowed their logo from rubbish chute maintenance corporation Veolia Environmental Services’ logo, which bears more than just a passing family resemblance to the original.

Former Presidential Candidate Mr Tan Jee Say has set up a new political party called “Singaporeans First“. The party pledges to put “Singaporeans at the heart of the nation”.

At a press conference on Sunday, 25th May, Mr Tan Jee Say announced the formation of the party and unveiled the founding team, which includes ex-People’s Association members, former members of the Young PAP, architects, a retired army colonel and other professionals.

A familiar face with the new party is well-known psychiatrist Dr Ang Yong Guan, who together with Mr Tan contested the 2011 General Election on the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) ticket.

Mr Tan Jee Say said that his party will champion policies to build a fair society, strong families and an esteemed people, and create a “new narrative” for Singapore which focuses on not treating citizens as economic digits.

Dr Ang said the logo — a heart within a circle — symbolises that the party thinks also with its heart, as opposed to the PAP which only thinks with the brain.

Mr Tan said that his party is keen to form a coalition party with other opposition parties for the next General Election.

In terms of policy, the party will focus on a strong safety net and having a fair society, Mr Tan said.

The party will advocate a more progressive taxation system, the removal of the Goods and Services Tax, increased social spending, and unemployment insurance with benefits that last at least six months. The party also wants more government support to be given to local enterprises, especially in the healthcare and education sectors.

The party also believes that the nation should have an affordable universal health insurance scheme, and a state-provided old age pension that would be on top of the Central Provident Fund.

On more recent political developments, Mr Tan also said that the bus contracting policies announced this week is a public admission of failure, and accused the Government of taking ideas from the opposition.

Mr Tan said that the new party had not been registered yet. Papers will be submitted to the Registry of Societies after the press conference, he said, adding that he expects approval to be given within two months, after which they will begin walkabouts.

The 11 founding members of the party are:

1. Dr Ang Yong Guan, psychiatrist and ex-grassroots leader

2. Michael Chia, retired engineer and volunteer social worker

3. Fahmi Rais, communications professional, ex-Young PAP and Legislative Assistant

4. Fatimah Akthar, architect

5. Dr David Foo Ming Jin, chemist, logistics professional and ex-Young PAP

6. Jamie Lee Swee Yan, certified SAP IT professional and project manager

7. Winston Lim, architect and town planner

8. Dr Loke Pak Hoe, Director of 3 multinational educational companies

9. Tan Jee Say, financial adviser, ex-civil servant, banker and fund manager

10. David Tan L.K., educationist and ex-grassroots leader

11. Tan Peng Ann, social entrepreneur, retired SAF officer and ex-PAP grassroots leader
