Here we have a high level committee struck ostensibly to look into strenghtening NS. But this committee is a microsm of what is wrong with the PAP and SIngapore today. Literally hundreds of thousands of men have performed NS, so this is not a trivial matter. But look at who is on this committee.
- A Minister of Defence who was never a general, but a surgeon and a medical officer supposedly doing his NS in Mindef. DOes anyone here really consider a doctor's stint in the SAF to be truly representative of an NS experience. Obviously not.
- 3 members who are current or former regular sign on officers and now holding the rank of general, i.e. Chan Chun SIng, Perry Lim, and Ng Chee Meng. Again 3 characters who have never done NS.
- 2 women, Amy Khor and Luisa Lee. Unless they were serving NS as comfort women, I fail to see how they can possibily know anything about an NS experience, much less how to strenghten it.
- More Drs. like Dr. Lim Wee Kiak and Dr. Bervyn Lee.
And the rest of the committee are populated by your PAP porlumpars such as Perm Secs, SPH editors, Mediacorpse executives, etc. How can this type of committee be representative of 450,000 NSmen? They are comprised of either people who have never served NS or of elites. Where is the taxi driver, or hawker, or those other occupations now occupied by formerly peng kias and the average singapore Joe who did his NS? Not represented at all. In other words, this committee meeting for the 7th time and costing god knows how many millions knows fuck all about strengthening NS.
But this is representative of how the PAP runs things. We have SAF generals who have no corporate experience running SMRT. Every where, people who are poorly or totally unqualified are placed in areas of responsibility because they are beholden to the PAP and are their loyal lackeys. The result from all this inevitable incompetence is now demonstrated every day. Crowded MRT breaking down all the time. Not enough housing because one hand let in millions of FT without the other hand figuring out u must build flats to accomodate them. An Engineer being put in charge of $100 billion plus soveriegn funds and than losing billions $. And all these lackeys don't dare to tell the GAY emperor he has no clothes.

SINGAPORE - Members at the meeting discussed several recommendations, which follow the latest round of public feedback. These include suggestions to improve the way the Individual Physical Proficiency Test is managed, and boosting measures to support national servicemen in areas of housing, healthcare and education. Another idea is to expand the roles of the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence and the SAF Veterans' League to deepen engagement with key stakeholders.
The Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS), chaired by Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, held its 7th Steering Committee Meeting at the SAFRA Mount Faber earlier this morning.
During the meeting, the "Support for NS" and "Recognition and Benefits for National Service" Working Groups submitted their final reports to the Steering Committee. Members discussed the recommendations following the latest round of public feedback, including suggestions to improve the management of the Individual Physical Proficiency Test, expanding the roles of the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence (ACCORD) and the SAF Veterans' League to deepen engagement with key stakeholders, and enhancing measures to support National Servicemen in the areas of housing, healthcare and education. The Committee also discussed some of the suggestions which would not be taken up.
CSNS member Mr Gerald Singham shared after the meeting, "I am happy with the process and outcome of the CSNS. We met with a wide range of stakeholders so a lot of the recommendations are a reflection of what our NSmen would like to see. In terms of the actual recommendations, I think that they are meaningful and at the same time, it does not make NS into something that is too transactional. I personally feel that defence of our country is a sacred duty and it should not be reduced into something that is transactional."
More than 40,000 people from all walks of life have participated in the CSNS public consultation effort. The CSNS has reviewed the feedback and suggestions and will announce its recommendations by June.
