To all Sporean male, this is what you get doing National Service for your country. The PAP Govt has been lecturing Sporeans to have realistic expectation in their job search during this current recession. Yet this poor chap who applied for a job as a temp admin asst at Tan Tock Seng Hospital was turn away becos he was considered "overqualified" for the job. Then WTF do you expect retrenched PMETS to do? First we have the PAP govt inviting jobless foreign professionals from the United States to come and compete for jobs with them. And when our PMETs decide to lower their expectations and look for a lower position job, they are rejected because they are "overqualified". Our local PMETs are really fucked by the PAP govt.

Retrenched sales executive told: You're overqualified for job
A sales executive was told that he was overqualified for a temporary job position, after he was retrenched just before Chinese New Year from a local firm.
In his email to STOMP, the STOMPer wrote:
“I fell under the PMET category and was retrenched just before Chinese New Year.
“I worked as a Sales Executive in a local managed firm and was informed of my retrenchment on 5.25pm, five minutes before knock off.
“I was shocked by the whole experience, there wasn't any notice given beforehand. At the end my retrenchment, I was also told to sign a Termination Letter.
“I viewed my retrenchment as an insult and humiliation, despite creating new cliental accounts and closing sales.
“I realised that many top management staff (especially Singaporeans) lack a sense of sympathy and the way they handle the retrenchment is horrible.
He recounted how he had gone for a job interview as a temporary administrative assistant in Tan Tock Seng Hospital to replace someone on maternity leave but was told that he was overqualified for the job.
“In times like these, it is sad to see some recruiters or companies wasting job seekers’ time.
“I hope recruiters will job match properly and have a clear communication with their clients.
“They should also put themselves into job seekers' shoes and understand the pain that we are going through right now. Job seekers like me are even willing to travel from west to north just to secure a job right now.
“I sincerely hope that all recruiters and companies will be genuine to job seekers. We are all out to earn a living and to put food on the table for our family. The world is evolving tremendously and retrenchment can happen to anyone around us right now.”
