I surprise that until now, no one comes in and comment that this would not have been a problem if you are a vegan![]()
Taking how much is safe?
Thanks to you especially. This is an eye opener. Knorr is the best selling brand here I must say, the name became a generic for all stock cubes. Fuxx my fridge is packed with them got to go throw them all away now.
There are also vegan cubes made with vegan chemicals.![]()
I use some ikan billis and add some soya beans to boil 30-45 mins. Throw in some fried onions+oil and the stock is good enough for cooking noodle soup. Safe and healthier.
More for you FROG! Short form for Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid is EDTA....
EDTA is safe when used as a prescription medicine, as eye drops, and in small amounts as a preservative in foods. EDTA can cause abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, low blood pressure, skin problems, and fever.
It is UNSAFE to use more than 3 grams of EDTA per day, or to take it longer than 5 to 7 days. Too much can cause kidney damage, dangerously low calcium levels, and death.
Special Precautions & Warnings:
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: EDTA seems to be safe when used in food amounts. The safety of larger amounts is unknown.
Asthma: Nebulizer solutions containing disodium EDTA as a preservative can cause the breathing tubes to narrow in some people with asthma. The size of the dose determines the amount of the narrowing.
Heart rhythm problems: EDTA might make heart rhythm problems worse.
Diabetes: EDTA might interfere with blood sugar control because it can interact with insulin.
Low calcium levels in the blood (hypocalcemia): EDTA can decrease serum calcium levels, making hypocalcemia worse.
Low potassium (hypokalemia): EDTA can bind with potassium and increase the amount of potassium that is flushed out in the urine. This might cause potassium levels to drop too low, especially in people who have low levels to begin with. If you have this problem, don’t use EDTA.
Low magnesium levels in the blood (hypomagnesemia): EDTA can bind with magnesium and increase the amount of magnesium that is flushed out in the urine. This might cause magnesium levels to drop too low, especially in people who have low levels to begin with. If you have this problem, don’t use EDTA.
Liver problems and hepatitis: EDTA might make liver disease worse. Avoid using EDTA if you have a liver condition.
Kidney problems: EDTA can harm the kidney and might make kidney disease worse. EDTA doses should be reduced in patients with kidney disease. Avoid using EDTA if you have severe kidney disease or kidney failure.
Seizures (epilepsy): There is some concern that EDTA might increase the risk of seizure in people with epilepsy or in people who tend to have seizures. EDTA can cause severe decreases in blood levels of calcium, and this can cause a seizure.
Tuberculosis (TB): Tuberculosis is a lung infection that is caused by particular bacteria. Sometimes the body is able to “wall off” pockets of infection, making the infection inactive. The bacteria remain alive behind the wall of scar tissue, but they can’t get out to cause illness or infect other people. This scar tissue frequently contains calcium. There is some concern that EDTA might be able to bind the calcium in the scar tissue, causing the “walls” to give way and release bacteria. Don’t use EDTA if you have active TB or had TB in the past.
bro,
we live this life once, eat in moderation is ok![]()
Frog, go find out what is Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid...these products from Thailand are laced with it...then you decide whether to throw them away or not...![]()
Frog...ok..help you a little in case you NUKE me
Go see the side effects of consuming excessive Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid in foods... http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-suppl...veIngredientId=1032&activeIngredientName=EDTA
Fuxx, all thrown liao now then you say.
Have been using for quite sometime...still alive and hair still intact.
Thai FDA is notoriously corrupt. Lots of food companies are taking advantage of this. Why do you think Thailand has become a center for food and beverages manufacturing
First, Thai FDA do not have sufficent skilled professionals. They depend a lot on R&D professionals of multinational food companies like Nestle, Unilever, Kraft and so forth.
Second, they are open to bribes..you know what i mean..the indirect ones..
Over time... formulations and ingredient list submitted are all incomplete with major international companies competing together with the local food manufacturers.
So Frog...better be careful...![]()
Pii Joetys... since you are in Thailand... let me tell you about some dark secrets about Knorr...Knorr was previously owned by Bestfoods... it was acquired by Unilever in 2002-3... Bestfoods R&D has a track record of not declaring full ingredient list and formulation to Thailand FDA... so you can expect lots of undeclared chemicals in there....good luck...
Given that a forummer here mentioned EDTA....let me tell you what happen to Unilever and Knorr Chok or Porridge .... bastard Unilever added EDTA into Chok amd not mentioning to Thailand food authorities...that was in 2006 or 2007 i think...have a friend working there... obviously someone internally then whistle blowed...the whole matter was covered up between authorities and Unilever. Not sure how they managed to...but this is a true incident...
You see...chok is a staple food for most Thais...imagine if you eat Knorr Cup Chok 2 times a day for a few days...i am sure you are going to get the side effects of over exposure to EDTA..
Unilever added EDTA to chok cos of shelf life and transportation across Thailand where heat is likely to affect the quality of the chok. All these multinationals are up to their tricks in Thailand...so never never buy Cup Chok as they are heavily laced with chemicals for shelf life. Of course the authorities are quite smart as their mouths are sufficemtly shut by advantages from these big big food companies...
