Amnesty International has a job opening for Senior Policy Advisor. It will be based in either Bangkok or Hong Kong. Nobody will use dictatorial Sinkieland as a base for such high skilled jobs. My sources tell me the pay is quite "good", about $8,000 a month. I say it's too low.
Here are the details:
As Senior Policy Adviser you will play a key role in working with country and thematic researchers, advocates and campaigners in our International Secretariat and other offices on the human rights analysis and policy recommendations Amnesty International presents in new research, advocacy initiatives and campaigns. You will also lead in preparing and presenting Amnesty International’s contributions to the development of new international and regional treaties and standards.
You will also work with legal and policy advisers to ensure effective, coherent and timely approvals of Amnesty International’s public documents.
While the Law and Policy Programme is mainly located in London, this post will be based in Bangkok or in our regional office in Hong Kong and will help the organisation to react quickly to external events in the region.
You will have significant professional experience in human rights including field research and have extensive knowledge of law, politics, international relations or another field related to human rights. You will have the ability to develop coherent policy recommendations based on a detailed understanding of human rights principles and Amnesty International’s core values.
You will have demonstrated ability to lead policy development work in a complex political environment and have recognized expertise in the human rights aspects of one or more of the following fields: criminal justice, including the application of the death penalty; freedom of expression; economic, social, and cultural rights; and the human rights of refugees and migrants.
You will have demonstrated excellent research, analytical and writing skills, including recent relevant publication. You will have extensive experience of managing people, including at a distance; excellent analytical skills; good interpersonal and organisational skills; excellent communication skills. You will have experience of planning, organizing and prioritizing work under pressure and to deadlines. You will also have excellent external representational skills. Outstanding written and verbal English is essential and the ability to work to a high professional level in another language, particularly Arabic, French, Mandarin, Russian, or Spanish, is strongly preferred. You should be prepared to travel frequently in East and Southeast Asia, with regular trips to London.
