MCYS and MP ignored sole breadwinner’s plea for assistance

I am a 30-year-old lady. I have a daughter who’s in primary 2. I had a second child who unfortunately passed away on November 2012.

I used to work in an office as an operation assistant for 3 years.

After my maternity leave, I went back to work on April 1st.

However, the management changed and my job title and salary were adjusted without informing me. I was so depressed at that time due to my loss of child at stillbirth.

I tried to work and follow their instructions working as a promoter. After a few days later, I could not endure, so I left the company without sending in a termination letter.

Couple days later, I received their letter from MOM.

I attended the hearing and explained to the judges how I felt. The case finally closed and the judge reprimanded my ex-boss for being heartless.

I won the case.

Since I’m the sole breadwinner in my family. I cannot stop working. I found a temporary part-time job as a shop assistant opposite my house.

Because I have to match my timing with my daughter who is studying during noon time, I have to hold on to this job with a $700+ salary.

Regrettably, our monthly expenditure hits almost $2k.

I went around to borrow money from my friends. I was left with no choice, so I went to MCYS Community Care to seek help. I explained to the officers what I went through.

He replied since I could survived so long with low pay, why did I come to them for help.

I was so angry and told him if he couldn’t help, there was no need for him to be nasty.

I then went to MP to lodge a complaint. It was no use as they reverted me back to the same officer. I was again asked to go for an interview.

I went and they wanted to see my husband.

My husband did not want to go so nobody wanted to help me at all. I tried calling the officer, explaining and begging him to approve my case. They rejected me once more.

I really need to find a stable job with better income.

Because of my daughter’s schedule, nobody’s helping me or her to get her ready before school time. I really don’t want to waste my money on hiring a nanny as I feel that it’s the same.

Just to share with you, Mr Gilbert, If you have any question, feel free to ask me.

Thanks.

Irene

Dear Irene,

The white party worships the devil and the sacrifices they need are human suffering and bloodshed to show their devotion and in turn receive powers to continue to delude the 60% who are still living in insouciance.

So guess who is paying through their nose now while they party the good life and enjoy $12/- chai tow kue and $8/- bypass surgey and not forgetting the $2.50 nasi padang.

These are beginning to sound like good material for the new song of the 12 Heartless Days of Christmas.

This is only a tip of the iceburg. I am surprise MPs and Ministers are not aware of dire conditions many of our Singaporeans faced. We are a proud people and no one will ask for help if we can help ourselves. Stupid remarks by MCYS is nasty. The officer is not fit to work in social organisation. Phui

This is heart wrenching. The least we could do is to make effort to empathise and not rationalise. Splitting hair goes to show how inept of us just to feel for the family or worst, we have, as a government agency, lost touch with the greater cause. Why even bother to have MCYS?

It's tough...............the govt, even if really help, will only help for 6 months.........after that, you're on your own.

How come husband never co-operate with wife to see the govt. Like that, might as well divorce and seek TPL for help.

TPL can do miracles, including turning sanitary pad into cash.

To be honest,,if cannot afford dont have kids,,easy as that,,no point being in ang mor lands where the middle class pay taxes to support other people and their kids...

Can. You need to be sibei cham. Maybe give u $200

Before you get any assistance, you'd need to jump through the hoops, proverbially crawl under the legs of the helper, to prove that you are sincere and your case is genuine.

Need to filter out the welfare cheats, you know. ;)

Wait wait, she is a sole bread winner? But she has a husband correct?

In ang moh lands you can have double digit kids and still survive with government help

You can scold the parents but the kids are innocent, they played no part in the decision to be born. To withhold help is to penalise the children as well. What would you suggest? Forced sterilisations for the poor? The best approach is to counsel the parents and ensure that the kids get a decent life so they don't end up being criminals.

Lady is 30 and is the sole breadwinner. Husband at most say 40 but shake leg at home.

Husband cannot work but can screw to even get second kid. Blessing in disguise that it is a still birth.

Guess the race.

Let the law of natural selection take its course. It benefits the whole species in the long term.

If this lady receives support, she'll end up having more children.

I share your thoughts. Social workers will know that those who know how to complain are usually those who refuse to work and give excuses to leech on whatever welfare they can find. No officer is so rude to the real poor. Meet this group of self proclaimed poor and they will drive you nuts. Go mcys and observe the fat ladies going there carrying genuine branded handbags to get social welfare grants as they have no money for utilities fees.

It is a real challenge to reach those in real need who are usually silent and do not like to trouble others. The problem is complicated by lazy ones who take advantage of the the system and give the real poor a bad name.

We need to bring back stop at 2. Even best. Issue birthing licence. No licence no kids. N yr idea is the bestest
Force sterilisations. I agree. For the kid I do not mind if a fund waw set up to issue vouchers for school books. Milk powder. Uniforms. Doctor vouchers. Medicine etc. But only for the kid. Parents get nothing. No bullshit like family payments etc. Also kid can be placed in foster homes. In ozland. There is a foster home scheme. Couples volunter to look after foster kids. My ang mor ex colleague got 3 kids of his own. Than later on he n wife look after another child with a sad story. Now he is grown up n doing well. He also returned to stay w his mother. These r options given. But forced sterilisation is the bestest. Good idea.

Can fuck but cannot have kids,,and the world will be a better place if fuck not equal to have kids,,,the world is over populated as it is,,high time to start culling the herd,,start with the trailer park trash and 3rd world country trailer park trash,,I hate to admit it but Boss Sam is right,,humans have fucked up natural selection so much that the human species is getting worse,,,

I like this idea, no cert no fuck, more money for the 超级白!

At least, in functional countries, the taxes are channelled back to the citizens. In SG, the FAP Traitors use our blood and coffin money to provide free education and reserve jobs for FTrash!

in functional countries..the taxes are funneled into the civil serpents,,left over shit than the people get,,but the cost is always higher on the middle class,,

You have valid points just two areas of caution.

1) Forced sterilisation is no longer socially acceptable. Besides, who will decide the criteria and what will the criteria be? It is too dangerous.

2) Being poor alone is insufficient to deem someone an unfit parent. Fostering needs to be done only under the worst circumstances when there is obvious child abuse or neglect. The best love still comes from the parents.
