What difference does the nationality of one driver make? Overall statistics are a far better tool for targeted road safety improvements.

Because there could two other story here. Is the government trying to protect foreign national? Currently, resentment against foreigners is high and the government puts a ban on reporting of foreigners violating our laws is an attempt to not fuel the resentment. Secondly, there may be an increase in fatal serious accidents as more rich foreigners drive their expensive cars here.

凌晨高速公路爆胎下车修理　遭休旅车撞及4人死
二零一三年八月十日 凌晨十二时五十二分


（新加坡9日讯）休旅车凌晨时分在高速公路爆胎，车上5人下车修理，岂料却被黑色休旅车从后撞了上来，导致一家三口以及其中一名女死者的男朋友，共4人惨死，而肇祸男司机受伤！

致命车祸发生于周五凌晨3时54分，地点是中央高速公路往实里达高速公路，杨厝港出口处前的路段。

当时，一家四口韩国人和一名马来男子的黑色休旅车正在前往机场途中，岂料，车子却突然爆胎，迫使全车人急忙下车。

马来男子阿莫伦（Amron Ayoub，23岁）事发前是司机，也是其中一名女乘客宋芝素（Song Jisoo）的异国恋男朋友，而另外三名乘客分别是宋芝素的哥哥以及父母。

事发前，阿莫伦驾父亲的车送女友的父母去机场，回韩国，不料却爆胎。

爆胎之后，韩籍夫妇与他们的女儿和马来男子站在车后，而宋芝素的哥哥则站在车旁。

这时，一辆黑色的休旅车却快速撞上4人，当场把韩籍父母和爱女活活夹死。

同样也站在车后的阿莫伦虽没当场惨死，但他在被送往邱德拔医院后，也被宣告不治身亡。

从韩来狮城探女客死异乡

唯一侥幸生还的是宋芝素的哥哥，他因为站在车旁而逃过一劫。

亲睹事发经过的他透露，意外发生得太突然，他只大声用韩语喊了一声“不！”，家人就已离开人世。

知情人透露，宋芝素的家人原本兴致勃勃地到狮城探望在新加坡工作的女儿，岂料却客死异乡。

目击者指肇事车歪来歪去行驶

肇事司机事发前驾车歪来歪去，有目击者的汽车电眼录下现场画面。

目击者事发前就在肇事司机的车后驾驶，见情况不妙十分担心，不料歪来歪去行驶的汽车突然撞上前面的人。

不少目击者在汽车论坛和Youtube发布当场录下的画面，只见事发后不少民防人员到场。

民防部队发言人受询时说，闻讯即刻派2辆救护车到场救治。

宋芝素为男友来狮城工作

阿莫伦是警官，宋芝素是为男友才来狮城工作。

根据面簿资料，阿莫伦就读后港小学和康柏中学，过后毕业于新加坡理工学院的海事工程。

他在10年至12年在警察部队服务，过后调升到特别行动指挥处担任教官。

宋芝素则是毕业于韩国建阳大学，通晓英文。

她来自韩国大田市，生前在韩国双龙工程与建筑公司工作。

她的父亲宋俊武（Song Jung Woo）和母亲金美京（Kim Mee Kyung）则是来探望女儿却不幸遇车祸身亡。疑酒后驾车酿惨祸疑醉酒驾车酿惨祸，34岁华族司机杜振洋（人名译音）在医院被捕。　

据了解，杜振洋在车祸发生后胸口和头部疼痛，被送入医院接受治疗。　

记者今早走访医院时，看到两名警员在向他录口供。

杜振洋的父母、一名女亲属及一个10多岁少年，也赶到医院等候和了解情况。

警方受询时，证实逮捕了一名34岁男子协助调查。

据了解，司机涉嫌酒后驾车。

公路交通法令规定，酒后驾车者可被吊销驾驶执照12个月以上。初犯者可罚款1000元至5000元新币（约2578至1万2891令吉），或入狱最长6个月。

重犯者可面对最高3万元新币（约8万令吉）罚款及监禁最长3年。醉酒驾车发生意外，并导致他人严重受伤或死亡，则可打鞭多达6下。

3人结伴来仅剩一人

3人结伴来狮城探妹，如今仅剩一人在新，宋芝素哥哥周五早神情凝重到殓尸房认尸。

亲睹至亲活活被夹死，宋芝素的哥哥今早戴着一顶帽子，在友人的陪同下，愁容满面抵达殓尸房。

据悉，他暂时会在狮城逗留。

知情人表示，当被问及是否会把家人的遗体领回韩国办后事时，宋芝素的哥哥说他尚未做出任何决定。

另外，阿莫伦的家人周五早也到殓尸房认尸。

There is no such government ban. You are simply looking at everything with Anti-PAP colored glasses. It's good to take them off once in a while, especially when it comes to road safety. Common sense does a much better job there.

If more SGreans travel to third world countries and see how people drive there, with many using fake licences, they will be astounded at the ease SG driving licences are handed out to foreigners from these countries without the need for passing practical driving tests. Unfortunately, SGreans have no sense of unity and unless some tragedy affects them personally, they won't lift a finger to do something about the situation.

What good is a practical driving test if the driver is drunk? It's a matter of mindset, not certification.

In the countries I mentioned, drunk driving may not be a big deal and penalties given usually depends on who you are, might be where SG is heading as well. In that respect, do you think those people will pay much heed to rules of the road?

If certification is not easily obtained, they will be less likely to commit any kind of offences, be it drunk driving or something else. Same logic as how you are more likely to be careful with how you spend your hard-earned cash than money gifted to you.

There was a similar case about 15-16 years back...along Lentor Avenue, where a car had a minor accident skidded and stopped at the road shoulder, a motorist stop & assisted the driver...a police car responding to the accident..hit the two drivers & killed them...what was the punishment? anyone care to dig that up??
