How many of us remember the time when politics was such a taboo that any discussion or debate in public were frowned upon. If you started anything of that sort, you were regarded as a rebel, a firebrand or even an irresponsible individual. Even in family circles it was done in hushed tones with cryptic undertones. It was not actually not too long ago.

Also recall if a member of public was interviewed on TV, they would be coy about policies but became quite emotional about things like carpark fines, noisy motorcyclists racing, and the usual social issues.

Things have changed a lot and many have to look towards Chiam See Tong as the single individual that brought politics to the kitchen table, the office pantry, the local watering holes and even within family interactions. He was said to have removed the sheen of politics out of every subject and issue that he raised. It was things like "how much does it cost to build a 3 bedroom HDB flat", "why is not compulsory for all children to attend school" "why are conservancy charges so high and could we have the breakdown" etc. All dear to the heart of many SIngaporeans. All everyday questions that were begging for answers.

This is a gentleman that brought down PAP version of politics from its lofty heights to sea level. This is the gentleman that made politics in SIngapore so playable.

No credit is taken away from JBJ who needled the Govt to no end and broke the drought and gave us all hope but it was Chiam that made it a wholesome meal that everyone could partake.

Even then you still can sense the caution displayed by some, the compromise offered before the first offer is made and most importantly the need to be ultra clean and well educated. That too was recently broken during the last 2 By Elections.

What more is there to come - residents of a housing estate forming their own party to take care of their estate? Lets us see and this is indeed a cryptic message.

Remember the time when the late JBJ was out in the streets distributing the Hammer newsletter and everyone was 'shy' to take one!! Nowadays people will go and take Opp leaflets, yes things have changed.

Until you find your balls, or rather you and the Sinkies, nothing will come out from all this.

You might as well join some women groupies in their gossip sessions! LOL

Yes, Sinkies are awakening.

10 yrs ago, when talked about PAP policies and unfairness, almost everyone in my office shunned away from me, and they labelled me as trouble maker.

I still remember two gentlemen refused to listen and walked away from our coffee table. They were grassroot members.

One day I was in MPS, and while waiting for MP I was talking to one assistant about stagnant salary issue due to cheap and abundant import of FTs, he seemed stunt... Ha ha but he cannot run away.
Surprisingly, my request through MP was unsuccessful as well.

Sometimes I think people like us opposing the established one have to swim the high tides.
Now, we do have high hope for the better future Singapore.

That is why I laugh at idiots who say that Singapore is a free and democratic society.

Arresting a friggin' cartoonist? Shame on you PAP. The sooner the whole lot of you overpaid devils-in-white get culled, the better for Singapore.

Like I said, the gay fucked up Leegime wants war, the people will give it to them. They behave like the aqua fu manchus of Penang who act like got class when they do not have and try to find someone to do their dirty work to do anyone they do not like in. But they can never fight any real battles. I think if they want to push it, they will get their real response soon. I am not quite sure if Loong is fully in control. His dogs take a word against them like a dagger to the hurt and return a blow that inflicts real permanent damage on others. So such behavior can only escalate to something nasty. They never woke up and I do not think they ever will even in their graves or final moments. We can only blame the stupid Singaporeans that gave in to Kuan Yew the genetic defect.

I would think taking of Opp leaflets is too humble an example. Look at WP rally as compared to PAP rally, nobody could have imagined such a scene 20 years ago.

Not quite true. Opposition rallies have been well attended for a long time. It's just that this attendance had not converted into votes. Also, there was little party machinery to move the ground outside of the rallies. That has changed. Through its hard won constituencies, WP has used the TCs to move the ground, something the PAPzis didn't expect when they started the TC nonsense.

Without the heart of the people, the hardware will not be effective too. I hope SDP can garner enough of volunteers and supporters of similar size, not just WP alone.

I don't know why but i see in some sinkies cheering jbj but totally ignoring chiam and then you realise they have some sort of sickening infatuation with indians or non chinese. i don;t think it's so bad today but back in those days you could see it more often.

Leave race out of this. We r talking about JBJ and CST- the founders of our opposition movements. I don't understand what u r trying to insuinate here!!

Yes, wife's pulling back their husbands from picking up a copy of the Hammer. I remember when Chiam came on the scene at Cairnhill at his first attempt, the press, people and even the PAP did not know what to do. He did not behave like a politician and with his wife and his VW, it added to the mystery. Bear in mind the country was brought up to view an opposition politician as communist sympathiser, a rebel rouser to create chaos or a charlatan.

The PAP was paralysed on what to do. No one wanted to offend him to avoid the wrath of society. So old man led the way as usual and brought his O level results out only to fall and stumble. And the rest is history.

Even in parliament no one had a bad word for him. Suddenly politics was no longer bad.

The wives pulled back their husbands from picking up the hammer because according to manipulative kaypohchee Scroobal, JBJ was not polite to the staff at cold storage.

It's better to be impolite, fearful or ignorant than manipulative, but of course badly brought up manipulative fucktards won't realise that.

Yes, bro, very common all over Singapore.

Even taxi drivers will slow talk you, size you and then talk about their woes but that too was a referral to an imaginary person. Occasionally you come across one that will curse the PAP.

Funny you mention MPS. The guys who help out at MPS will never tell anyone what they do.

Cunning bastards who pretend to whine about pap and the establishment all year long, but attack the opposition online just before the GE will also never tell anyone what they do. Because they will be admitting that they are traitorous double headed snakes.

Spot on bro. It was like Singaporeans decided to go onto the dark side en mass. It was one of the great movement in local politics.
