TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Prosecutors yesterday formally indicted a schoolteacher in Taipei for intentionally spreading the HIV/AIDS virus to males in the gay community.
They accused him of committing the actions out of hate and revenge.
Officials at the Taipei Prosecutors Office said that the suspect, surnamed Feng, a special education teacher at an elementary school in Taipei, was arrested in September last year for spreading the virus.
Investigations show that Feng was first infected with HIV by a male sexual partner.
Instead of seeking medical help, Feng worked out a plan of revenge to vent his anger and hatred to other male homosexuals.
He lured as many as 300 other gay males by offering sex and illegal drugs via Internet chatrooms, according to police and health experts who have identified that at least 13 young people have become HIV virus carriers.
The victims, including students studying at some prestigious higher-learning institutions, told prosecutors that Feng lured them to bed or sex orgy parties with Internet messages, cost-free drugs, and even cash.
Feng had set up extensive contacts with more than 300 people. After studying Feng's computer data and communications records, the police have so far identified around 100 of those who had physically met him, according to the probe.
Prosecutors said Feng was charged with dealing drugs as well as violating regulations against deliberate and criminal transmission of AIDS/HIV virus by patients.
