My old Maytag refrigerator is getting old & I'm looking to replace it. Some may know that Maytag refrigerators are no longer being sold in Spore.

I'm planning to replace it with another American styled refrigerator. American styled fridges are deeper & wider than the typical refigerators. I need all the space I can get because my fridge is frequently packed with produce.

I'm looking at the more efficient refrigerators those with 4 check marks. I have seen those iconic Japanese styled refrigerators e.g. by Mitsubishi which is made in Japan. These are Double doored with many compartments usually selling for $3,000 to 4,000+. I recently saw Samsung branded models of this type. So these type of refrigerators must be popular,

As this is a big investment I'm looking for opinions especially from those who own such models. Is it worth it:confused:

Bro, I know nothing about refrigerators. I only know mine is a Samsung. Used Samsung just before changing to the current one. 6-8 years no problem. No need headache. Was once told by a friend who works for Samsung that all their products are ok except their aircons. That was told to me about 15 years ago.

No. You go amortize over 10 years and think. 400 dollar a fridge a year. You buy Samsung for 1000, you have a chance of paying only 100 a year. If not, you have 3000 dollars to still exceed the 10 year lifespan of use. Plus you get to change color and enjoy better newer models within the 10 years. Buying Japanese is like Nparks buying Bromptons. Also, if you have storage space in the house, it is still cheaper to have a horizontal freezer and a fridge at the same time and more economical. Look, you think Jippun fridge so energy savings meh? If data shows, Jippun 4000 saves 6000SGD more than your samsung in 10 years, maybe lor. You think so meh?

Keeping foods in peak condition starts with Twin Cooling.
Now, Samsung brings you the cooling technology of refrigerators five times the price. Our Twin Cooling System™ inside fans each chamber independently. Freezer air stays dry, fridge air stays humid so foods are kept in their peak condition. It’s the kind of technology you’d find in professional refrigerators, but it’s built into every Samsung – where what’s inside counts. Smart Thinking, Simple Living.

fridge "eat" a lot of electricity so energy saving brands/models very important. if u keep a lot of frozen food, maybe u shd have a chest freezer instead. a kdk(japan brand) 200L cost less than $400 a set, maybe even cheaper.

The problem I face is with the limitation of space in the normal cold space & not the freezer. The attraction of the japanese styled fridges is all the extra shelves & compartments.

Personally I find the old fridges ok but othesr in the family insist on buying bulk apples, oranges,... because doing so is cheaper:eek:
However all those extras are putting a strain on my fridge

You know what temperature you need? You may consider a showcase fridge like coffeeshop and provision shop use.

The only german fridge I've seen are the small Bosch models.

I like the Fisher & Paykel model. Was looking at their bigger stainless steel model http://www.fisherpaykel.com.sg/prod...roductuid=91B5312A-ABAB-DE13-D3D2FA7EA8425855
However it is is not cheap & the price is very close to the cost of one of those Jap styled fridges.

I am current using a F&P washing machine & it's still going strong. Their washing machines are reasonable priced at $800 to $1,200 range. Not like the new $2,000+ Korean/Jap models

It's healthier to avoid frozen foods. Most of the meats NTUC sells are I think thawed out meat i.e not that fresh

Yes..its true..never ever buy Samsung aircon..my hairdresser freind who installed Samsung aircon had a hell of time with leaking and breaking down.

Not advisable to buy household Samsung products such as micowave ovens and Hifi/sound system products but their fridges are ok. I used my Samsung fridge for 3 years. LG is a good choice for fridge too.

For Japanese brand, go for Mitsubishi and Panasonic...a bit expensive but can used for a long time.

Most refrigerator problems can be avoided if people (especially the women) stop stuffing lots of things into it.

You know what I'm talking about. You open the fridge door, and veggies and snacks fall out immediately.

Last year someone was asking on this forum about recommendations on washing machines.
Remember someone who complained that his Samsung washing machine leaked.

I'm happy with my Maytag fridge it is is over 10+ years old:smile:

Easier said than done:biggrin:
Believe me I've tried to educate some females in the household but you'll notice that I'm looking for a new fridge:o

Samsung's strengths are in making AMOLED displays and Flash/RAM chips.

Not really recommended for other household appliances.

I had a Maytag for about 12 years. Had a few servicing done by their agent. Finally replaced it two years ago with a Mitsubishi. Got it from Courts for about $2000 I think. It has two doors, one above the other. Stainless steel finish. So far so good.

Bro, even angmos stop buying horizontal freezers. Now days you can buy fresh meat and produce at local supermarkets and in portions that are convenient. I can bet you most people have ice cubes and ice cream in freezers and not else.

Only told timers tend to pack away in freezers as it is habit that they can't change. The concept of fresh produce is beyond them.

I really can't think of anything other than ice cubes and ice cream.
