Since MIWs are so crazy about boosting SG population to 7 millions? Why make Singaporeans' life so difficult??

SINGAPORE: Last year, there were 11,736 foreign spouses of Singapore citizens who were on Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP), including Long-Term Visit Pass Plus.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry, S Iswaran, shared the information in Parliament on Tuesday.

He said 37 per cent of them had stayed in Singapore for more than three years, while 30 per cent stayed for less than a year.

Mr Iswaran was replying to questions by MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC Zainal Sapari and Nominated MP R Dhinakaran.

The Long-Term Visit Pass Plus was introduced for foreign spouses who do not yet qualify for permanent residence.

Mr Iswaran said applications for Long-Term Visit Pass-Plus are considered holistically.

He added: "There may be a number of reasons such as the employment status of the Singaporean spouse as to why the application may be unsuccessful. In such cases, the foreign spouse will be on a LTVP in the interim period until he or she is eligible for an LTVP plus."

Such PR application is sponsored by the citizen spouse. If the citizen is not able to financially support the applicant he does not qualify as a sponsor and they won't approve the application.

Huh? Why get married to a sinkie who cannot support his wife?

Cos if spouse to sinkie can 100% get PR, there will be thousands of sham marriages to idiotic Sinkies.

Those Long-Term Visit Pass wives gave birth can get citizenship bor?

Probably lowly educated foreigners married to low income Singaporeans. If the Singaporean was earning $200k a year, would have been no problem getting PR for the wife.

no PR ? my uncle recently had a sham marriage with a PRC woman. the woman wanted the PR status.

It is exactly these sham marriages that are making life tough for the genuine applicants. Hopefully after some years and the couple is still together, their application will be approved.

But I know of cases where the wife just wanted to get PR but not citizenship and this had affected the career of the husband working for the government. The husband could have been promoted faster and higher if the spouse was also a citizen. The reason for not obtaining citizenship? Doesn't want to forego the benefits of citizenship of the motherland e.g. the right to buying a property at the local subsidised rate.

Why does a civil servant get promoted faster when the spouse is a citizen?

i don't know the finer details. presumably, my uncle received some money for this agreement. he told the family that he did sort of like the woman. it could well turn out to be a genuine marriage. who knows ? life is uncertain. don't know whether free fucks included as part of the agreement. it seemed that the woman was desperate to stay in Singapore...

Everything that the government does can be considered state secret. The husband might accidentally leak out something he should not have to his wife.

Never give them PR is to protect stupid Sinkie.
If the spouse get PR he/she will get a share of asset when divorce because protected by law especially AWARE cheebye group KPKB.
If not PR/citizen the spouse will have hard time to fight for the asset.

Garment very selective one, Viets, Thais etc not easy to get PR. Even at custom, Thais will be granted only 2 weeks stay while a PRC can easily get 1 month.
