NSP write a petition to our President saying we should have a Referendem saying the Parliament vote on the White Paper do not represent the views of the people since the vote was according to party lines. I heard that on the news on CYN eve going for my reunion dinner. This morning I opened the Straits Times but cannot find any evidence of this? Common!! Not even a small back page column in fine print?? Wah, they really want a news black-out on this!! Lucky we have Sammyboy.

The National Solidarity Party have written letters to PM Lee Hsien Loong and President Tony Tan, urging them to call for a National Referendum on the population White Paper.

The letters, copies of which were sent to Yahoo! Singapore on Saturday morning, highlighted that there is significant opposition to the amended motion of the White Paper which was adopted by Parliament on Friday by a vote fo 77 to 13, with one abstention.

The letter to PM Lee noted that despite Parliament's adoption, the majority of votes do not "reflect the views of Singaporeans because the PAP Members of Parliament clearly voted along party lines".

"The future of this country is something that all Singaporeans have a stake in. It is only right that they should have a say in it as well. For this reason, we call on the Government to hold a National Referendum on the White Paper," it concluded.

A letter to President Tony Tan also urged the same.

"In announcing your intention to run in the last Presidential Election, you had said, 'I believe that the next President of Singapore may have to make very significant decisions that will affect the security and well‐being of all Singaporeans,'" said the letter.

"One very significant decision you could make with the well-being of the citizens of Singapore in mind would be to ask the Government of Singapore to hold a National Referendum on the White Paper," it concluded.

Both letters were undersigned by Hazel Poa, general-secretary of the opposition NSP.

No sound no picture,Pinky hiding in his bunker.Tony Tan very happy always smiling on TV.This is the culture of censorship practised by the MSM for the last 40 years.

Hear only the good stuff as their radios have previously said....

but for the SCM, report only the good (for PAP) stuff.......

:D

Happy new year to everyone reading this!! Good health and good wealth, many happy joys and may all your good wishes come true!!

Please lah, not suka suka call for Referendum. The last time Singapore called for one, it was to decide whether to merge with Malaysia or not.

if this issue call for Referndum, then next time what? Increase in bus fare or whether public toilet to charge 10 cents or not also call for referendum?

Let's decide in 2016. If all are happy with this issue and others then vote PAP, if not happy vote for WP. Give the WP more votes in Parliament.

Btw, now I think that NSP also CMI. Nicole Seah should quit NSP and join WP.

The population white paper is placed on the net for all to see.
It is clear that those who comment or condemn it never even read it.

I beg to differ ....

This is an important issue and this is one which is so crucial to the identity and future of Singaporeans that it should be put to the vote BY Singaporeans!!!

I got business at Canberra. Will move there later.

And none of you will read the White Paper for sure, not even Nicole Seah. Why are these people so silly?

Amongst all the issues so far (aside from the malaysia KO) this one is probabloy the most scary and major one....

this has impact on not only us as citizens but our children especially those of us who have boys who are below 5 years old,....they will be serving NS for a country where they will number about half and with no added benefits .....

Alot of people have businesses all over. They don't need to move. Stop giving excuses.

Whether people read or don't read, is none of your concern. What is important is that people are feeling the heat with the current population. They simply don't want 6.9 million regardless of which year. It is as simple as that. Don't you understand?

By 2016, it may be too late. The whole place may be infested with foreigners. Foreigners will vote for you know who.

Morning papers are printed in the early, early morning. The call for referendum happened after sunrise.

It's like a football match with a late kickoff time: you won't find results of it in the morning papers.

Maybe afternoon or next day's papers also won't publish...
They treat it as some unimportant collage football results
