Its not the hawker center, its trashy sinkees. Alot of sinkees eat fish or chicken and leave the bones all over the table. Why cant they ask for a side plate..
Whether the place is clean or not, it does not depends on upgrading, it depends on the way people behaves..
You put a sinkie there, it dirty the place. You put a population of sinkie there, you can imagine what will happen.
Must correct the perception here.
In the days of 1970 to early 1990, Singapore is indeed a clean place. We were world famous for that. Everywhere I travelled, they always commented that Singapore is a very clean and green country. Those were the days.
With the opening up of Singapore to all kinds of people, especially from the 3rd world countries, we have now more than 1/3 of the populations making up of these foreigners.
Singapore has started losing its cleaniness with these massive inflow of these foreigners. As early as early 2000, whenever I passed by a place where there are lots of foreign dormitories such as in Ubi, on a weekend evening, I could see the whole grass patch littered with all kinds of left overs - plastic bags, bottles, tissue papers, newspapers etc.
Please, don't blame the "sinkies". On the whole Singaporeans are very disciplined and orderly. We have been hardwired to queue up, to bring the plates back to the collection points, we do not litter, we do not spit and we do not chew gums etc while in school and when doing NS. This culture become 2nd nature in us.
Until the massive amount of foreigners found in our midst. When you have sufficient "critical mass" of these foreigners, you can't help but to live with it. Those positive traits once ingrained, simply gave way to the easily picked-up short cut relaxed behaviour.
If you need to identify where the root of the problem lies, it is the prostitute government who opened their legs so wide all these while. They are the cause of all these social problems.
