10 yrs ago, $150 to call chicken in Geylang.
5 yrs ago, same same.
Now, sama sama.
10 years ago : Can sit during MRT rides
5 years ago : Can stand during MRT rides
Now : Can't even find space to fart during the rides.
Again we go to the polls. Just want to check if we are better off today than 5 years ago or even 10 years ago. For myself I don't think I am better off, COE waiting to hit $100k soon, property prices record high, economy not so good, cost of living sibei high, more crowded, local environment also screwed up - construction here and there, MRT keeps breaking down....etc. Wow, get me a time machine back to the 90s!!!
#4winners
congratulations!!! the political stability, despite all the warts and all, give many singaporeans the opportunity to make money!!! those who had missed the boat felt cheated and therefore they feel vengeful and angry...and of course, they are now much poorer!!! esp those who did not purchase any house/flat at all....they die standing and many have to resort to hitting the government behind their pc in their hideout somewhere in the cave!!! i think tonychat felt cheated!!!
Its a very good question. On paper, the economic gains are obvious. Incomes have risen, we are among the highest per capita countries in the world, asset prices have risen, etc. Singaporeans are wealthier than ever before. We are richer than many 1st world nations. These are all good but Singapore has had 4-5% inflation in the past 3 years and per capita incomes have not kept pace with increasing per capita GDP, so to the avg Singaporean things have not changed. You can thank inflation.
Singaporeans should be asking themselves some serious questions. In other developed nations the domestic economy is important but its not the core emphasis of the government. That is the main problem facing Singapore today. In the past we developed our manufacturing base, then we diversified. We opened our markets and have a sound banking system. Then we built the Casinos. Currently we are importing economic growth through our "immigration" policies which has strained public resources, damaged the environment and caused public discontent. COEs are high, public transport is an issue, and the march to a population of 6.5M continues. But the question is why?
Singapore is developed. Why should we continue the same economic policies that continue to place the economy before the people? We have already made it. What's wrong with 3-4% economic growth per year? Do we really want smaller homes, sitting in traffic jams in cars with COEs that cost 100K, and high inflation? There are now so many people our personal space is scarce. And it will get worse. We are becoming another Hong Kong.
Whoever places the economy #2 and the people first is the one to vote for. Its time for political, economic, and social reform in Singapore.
There is no question that we are better off than yesteryears.
There will always be gripes here and there but thats normal.

life had been better for me as compared to 5 years ago, not that I like the ruling regime, but because I had foreseen and made the right change myself.
i totally agree unlike here where some forummers are more equal than others....haha
some got bigger vulval mouths with gun powder inside them. they have diplomatic immunity. and of course
