The People’s Association (PA) has explained its decision to release the name of Ms Laura Ong to the media, amid growing criticisms of its decision.

PA deputy chairman Lim Swee Say said on Friday that the organisation deliberated at length on whether to identify Ms Ong as the woman involved in the Michael Palmer affair but ultimately felt they could not keep it under wraps.

He said that although they did not want to “add to her pain” by identifying her, they recognised that the case had attracted much public attention.

He said: “We…owe it to our staff to let them know. Actually, otherwise, we would all be speculating. So we decided to inform our staff, let them know what has happened, that this person resigned and what was the reason.”

He added that in an organisation with 2,000 staff members, it would not be possible to keep an internal circular private.

“In today's open world, it's not possible to keep an internal circular internal. The moment we send out the email, within one second, you would have got the info anyway. So we decided, since we were going to inform our internal staff, no point trying to keep something internal, which is impossible,” he said.

Working in the PA is akin to working in the public service. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

No excuses, silly reasons like you cannot keep internal memos internal. What cock! Does that mean if we never had the internet, her identity would be covered up?

Fucking Lim Say Say has nothing better to do,this should be the job of chief PAP running dog,PA CEO General Yam Mee Mee.Ah Say finds NTUC boring and wants to get into action with sexy PA girls?

Zorro is lying through his teeth. They deliberated for quite some time and this was the solution? To expose her? It is obvious that the communications strategy was to name her so that media space would be allocated to her as well, and hence limited exposure to the Speaker.

Much as we know that the PA is related to the PAP, why is a fcuking union chief (although he is the chairman, I believe) making comments on staff matters instead of the CEO? Did we hear the chairman of SMRT squeaking a sound when all the problems appeared?

Yes, they are public servant on tax payers money also. It is not a private organisation whereby they can keep it private.
This Lim guy really don''t know what to say.

Lim is correct. What is the point of keeping it under wraps? What for?

it's ok, Zorro is already at East Coast GRC :D:D:D

i think they have blown everything up into big proportions..

why so many people so kaypoh?

So that people will also be talking about her and not just him? ;)

People should get the drift here. Lim Swee Say is saying that PAP will try all possible means to hide its flaws and embarrassment from the public unless it cannot be hidden (via internet). The next question is, how many worms created by PAP are still hidden from public view since PAP is so keen to hide them?

She's screwed. Might as well use her as a smoke bomb to deflect attention from MP (and PAP), hence you're spot on

However idiots like Amy Khor can't help but continue to fan the fire

Its funny to watch peasants and lackeys slug it out over a slut. Impressive that Old Autocrat is nearly at the end of his earthly existence and the country he ruled has degenerated into a cesspool soon. Interesting watch.

You hit the nail right on the head. Without the internet the PAP would have muzzled the press, either intimidated or bribed the relevant parties to shut up, and kept everyone in the dark.

Internet is the reason why Laura Ong is being named and why we now know there's more to it than meets the eye.

The Internet is the bane of all tyrannic and despotic regimes, and it is not just in Singapore.

Think of all the hanky panky and dirty dealings that happened in the past, before the age of the Internet and online social media.

The fundamental problem with our ministers, let alone the lowly MPs, is that they need scripts before they can speak with confidence. There are examples galore of their stupidity when they speak without scripts. The Gan fella when defending the PM's salary in parliament. Or when questioned at the sideline of an event, trying to defend No Porn Lui's comments about raising bus fares and got himself twisted all over the place. And he is some senior DBS banker at that.

So Amy Khor....I don't know what to say.

Did PA really tell the public it's Laura Ong? I don't think so. It just hinted by saying someone left citing personal commitments. The one who revealed more is Palmer himself.

Lim Swee Say, as usual, is LYING to gain political mileage of this scandal.
