Vincent Wijeysingha's excellent background piece on that strike

If he is PM, the investors will withdraw from Singapore and there will be no more jobs.
Sinkie men will be sent out to work in other countries like banglas and our women folk will become prostitutes and maids.

Think twice. Or thrice. If it happens, thats the end of Sinkieland.

Sinkapore is sinking, thanks to the PAP.

I am happy if they keep raising fees, it will keep us all in our spurs, be wise in our spending & learn to save & be thrifty. We will relearn from our fathers time of eating at home, walk where possible, spend when necessary.

then we should also throw away all our smart phones and computers and go back to the kampong days. walk bare footed to school and sell ice cream for pocket money.

Too communist. The best thing PAP did was to moderate the striking unions.

And all this did not come from MSM. Brilliant.

This guy should be PM - incisive, caring and more impotantly fair.

Singapore will sink if the tax-and-spend socialists take over. Ontario had its best periods when Mike Harris ban strikes.

The same reason why your country - second largest in the world has to suck up to your southern neighbour - too many people getting something for doing nothing.

One of the biggest fallacies perpetuated by liberal democracies is that unions and capitalists are equals and should be treated as such. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Unions are made up of working class masses who fall into the low IQ side of the normal curve while the capitalists are the driving force of any economy and are made up of talented and driven individuals.

It goes without saying that the power of unions needs to be kept in check in order for a society to function efficiently. Giving the unions too much power is like asking the village idiot to man a machine gun. You're simply asking for trouble.

If villager don't man a machine gun who will? the capitalist elites have no ball and we all know that.

Leegime is already taxing and spending for their own selves. I take a socialist any time.

Don't talk cock lah ... you dog of the MONGREL who bit his masters' hands LOUDHAILER chee soon juan.

You are just making it up. And anyway the taxes are low so why do I care where it goes to? Better than some fucking bleeding heart liberal who wants to double my taxes to play robin hood.

Brahahaha. Another PAPzi talking through her arse again. :oIo:

By this logic, the price of China milk is so low, she don't care whether what is inside is real protein or melamine.:p

On the flip side, giving the capitalists too much power by suppressing employees' right to collective bargaining through unions, staffing "unions" with "representatives" who are actually looking after the employers' interests, etc is equally stupid. This is like giving the village gangster the right to extract as much protection money as he wants to keep the place "safe". Don't need to say too much, let the video speak for itself.

Fuck you understand. Don't like the job, just quit. Don't give that shit about employee rights etc.

There is a difference. Not all capitalists are crooks. Many are socially responsible individuals. In the case of unions, All the working class have sub normal intelligence.

Rubbish. If capitalism were allowed a free hand, the laws of natural selection will prevail.

Everyone likes to look at the 2008 bank bailouts. The bailouts were the very problem. The banks should have been allowed to fail, let the fallout sort out the boys from the men.

I took the time to digest the whole article and once again, I have to take the side of management.

The statement "If you aren't happy, you can go and work for SBS" pretty much sums it up perfectly. It's a free world and in this day and age where travel is so easy and labour is so mobile, there is absolutely nothing stopping anyone working for any company from moving on if they aren't happy with their current lot.

The drivers aren't being treated as slaves. They aren't chained to their beds in their dorms. They are at complete liberty to do as they please with their lives.

There have been numerous occasions in my life when I was bitterly unhappy with the way I'd been treated. I simply moved on to greater things. There is no sweeter revenge than to end up better off than those who caused your misery.

dr jekyll and mr hyde , you missed the medication and now turned into a dickhead again. so very sad.

how about those black slaves in america during the 1700s and in south africa in 1600s ?
you mean they were chained to their bed all the time ? if not , why don't they run away too ?

Typical of the MONGREL who bit his masters' hands LOUDHAILER chee soon juan. What kind of comparison is that?

The black slaves were not allowed to resign and would be whipped/shot if they were caught escaping. The SMRT drivers could just leave anytime.

There is apparently a rebuttal from a "concerned Singaporean".

Vincent Wijeysingha (VW) has once again demonstrated his melodramatic skills and poor reasoning abilities in his long, pointless article.

Starting by stating his genuine, innermost feelings about foreign workers, he then launches belaboured and tired complaints about things he sees as so wrong in Singapore, a place where his father was rewared with a good career and insodoing, giving him a good, comfortable and strife free life. So much so that he can recite prose upon prose, poetry upon poetry, in order to criticise and lambast the exact system that he has merited from.

VW is a sad case. He picks out specific facts from the recent SMRT strike, pretending to have real facts when actually he does not. He claims the PRC workers had exhausted all means to seek redress when they obviously have not. He neglects to mention that Malaysian workers, also foreigners, are paid lower than Singaporeans but yet did not strike. He neglects to share that the bed bug infested domitories he makes a case of was actually an issue of personal hygiene of 1 driver, as attested to by the pest cleaning company which got rid of the problem within a day, something which obviously could not have been done, if the place was, well, infested like how VW dramatised. He does not share that the PRC workers have free food and lodging not enjoyed by their Singaporean and Malaysian colleagues. He does not mention how the PRC workers incited their fellow countrymen on Sina Weibo to rise up against Singaporeans, and show how small Singapore needs a big and strong China's support to earn a living. He neglects to mention that he is selling out his country, and his fellow Singaporeans.

VW attempts to criticise the market rated pay system for our Ministers yet again, but he does not share more about how his own father's superscale salary bought his comfortable place of abode and his studies overseas. The fact that he does not need to do real work and can yet get by comfortably should raise some eyebrows. Surely he does not make money by writing long Facebook notes? Hypocrisy aside, the lack of transparency in his arguments show a poorly put together piece at best, and a schizophrenic mishashed piece of attempted thesis at worst.

I do not think the Govt did everything right over the years. But neither do I think VW can claim any credit in proposing alternatives. To stand by the ringside, having not won a mandate from Singaporeans at the last GE, and attempt to draw attention to himself through false allegations sounds like the sad histrionics of a colleague of his, and I wouldn't be surprised if VW also pulled a stance like a hunger strike with glucose supplements to help manage the hunger.

With every article he writes, I am ever more convinced VW and the party he represents is bad for Singapore, and should never get elected into office. I seek my fellow Singaporeans' sentience in making my wish come true.

Concerned Singaporean
