Vincent Wijeysingha (VW) has once again demonstrated his melodramatic skills and poor reasoning abilities in his long, pointless article.
Starting by stating his genuine, innermost feelings about foreign workers, he then launches belaboured and tired complaints about things he sees as so wrong in Singapore, a place where his father was rewared with a good career and insodoing, giving him a good, comfortable and strife free life. So much so that he can recite prose upon prose, poetry upon poetry, in order to criticise and lambast the exact system that he has merited from.
VW is a sad case. He picks out specific facts from the recent SMRT strike, pretending to have real facts when actually he does not. He claims the PRC workers had exhausted all means to seek redress when they obviously have not. He neglects to mention that Malaysian workers, also foreigners, are paid lower than Singaporeans but yet did not strike. He neglects to share that the bed bug infested domitories he makes a case of was actually an issue of personal hygiene of 1 driver, as attested to by the pest cleaning company which got rid of the problem within a day, something which obviously could not have been done, if the place was, well, infested like how VW dramatised. He does not share that the PRC workers have free food and lodging not enjoyed by their Singaporean and Malaysian colleagues. He does not mention how the PRC workers incited their fellow countrymen on Sina Weibo to rise up against Singaporeans, and show how small Singapore needs a big and strong China's support to earn a living. He neglects to mention that he is selling out his country, and his fellow Singaporeans.
VW attempts to criticise the market rated pay system for our Ministers yet again, but he does not share more about how his own father's superscale salary bought his comfortable place of abode and his studies overseas. The fact that he does not need to do real work and can yet get by comfortably should raise some eyebrows. Surely he does not make money by writing long Facebook notes? Hypocrisy aside, the lack of transparency in his arguments show a poorly put together piece at best, and a schizophrenic mishashed piece of attempted thesis at worst.
I do not think the Govt did everything right over the years. But neither do I think VW can claim any credit in proposing alternatives. To stand by the ringside, having not won a mandate from Singaporeans at the last GE, and attempt to draw attention to himself through false allegations sounds like the sad histrionics of a colleague of his, and I wouldn't be surprised if VW also pulled a stance like a hunger strike with glucose supplements to help manage the hunger.
With every article he writes, I am ever more convinced VW and the party he represents is bad for Singapore, and should never get elected into office. I seek my fellow Singaporeans' sentience in making my wish come true.
