I have a PSLE of 120 but I am CEO of a GLC

Hi boys and girls,

Dont matter if you dont have great PSLE scores. Look around you. You can be Director of a govt institute, or the CEO of a GLC. What matters is who you know and what you do after that.

Some of the great companies in S'pore are led by low scorers in PSLE. Conversely, high PSLE scorers can be found unemployed, retrenched, or as business and career failures. Or losing our soveriegn assets in wild gambles with high stakes.

Years ago, ACS students who went on to to do Pre-U would say if they are in Pre Med if they are doing Biology at A levels or Pre Engineering if not. The things parents seek and get.

I thought MOE not identifying the top students was a major step forward. Yearly you could see school fencing with those silly banners of photos of top students etc.

Despite MOE's instructions, Nanyang Primary could not hold back and decided to recognise Singapore's top student using the pretext of recognising the student with another for a special "leadership" recognition. That is how Press came to know and reveal the school.

Heng Swee Keat seems to have much influence in cabinet and education ministry is able to executed much needed reforms. He is dismantling the bad policies instituted by TCH, even while TCH is the official number two now.

Emhasis on school ranking and all the stupid awards, KPIs etc were brought into education by TCH. I will not be surprised if Heng is next PM, he was personally vetted by old man after all. Kee Chiu and TCJ are probably found to be unacceptable and lacking.

glc are most inefficient companies in sgp.

they are poorly run and dont really make money if there is free market competition.

you mess it up nevermind. got unlimited supply of taxdollars to write off your losses.

keep changing names trying to whitewash past failures.

Not aware HSK was once OC Patrol. Yes, yet to hear anything negative about him while he was in the SPF. He was offered CP post in the past but wisely rejected the invitation.

Quiet, purposeful, not arrogant but not well liked by his cohort as he was aloof and remains aloof. You have to reach out to him. Redhill boy, humble family. One thing that struck out was no wayang. His first PD was bad because hus superior wrote that the went home at 5pm. Superior asked to re-write.

OC Patrol post not meant for scholars.

SPF now doing better with some ex-mata in high places. Examples include Benny Lim, Leo Yip, Aubeck Kam, Heng Chee How. Look out for Aubeck and Leo. The sky is the limit for them.

After KBH, GLK and CCK, can the SPF go lower?

He has an extremely cautious style of leadership, always asking subordinates for opinions. He was probably deemed to have lower CEP at young age, hence assigned to police, but thereafter shined and went into admin service, then PPS to old man. I would not be surprised if old man prefers Heng for next PM, to better protect his legacy.

You can sense his style in that he took many months touring the schools, talking to all stakeholders before pushing any changes. Before he makes his move, all angles are covered. He's probably not pleased with NYPS principal for going around his back to let the press know of the identity of top scorer. All other school principals toed the line.

I personally don't think NEH can make it. Too arrogant and honestly not much vision. Only thing going for him is that he has some physical resemblance to old man. The other elites don't really like him too. Maybe old man is just playing a game with NEH and kee Chiu, to help make the next PM more palatable and acceptable, or to divert attention away from his PM designate.

Heng asked for and signed up for SPF rather than SAF. same with Ong Kian Min and Leo Yip.They are on the highest level and required to undertake projects and assignments for PS upon return as well the work done at whichever unit they are working in. Ong Kian Min resigned as he did not like bureaucracy. Heng and Leo converted and soared very early.

There are number of streams that feed into the Elite admin service and you do not have to be OMS holder. A local walk-in with 2:1 from local U can enter Admin with no scholarship.

CEP at entry for these are defaulted at the highest level as they had to go for battery of tests. It will reflect badly on everyone including PSC. They were picked based on potential CEP. Imagine an elite scholarship based on less than potential CEP. Does not make sense. It adjusted downwards during consistency exercise at Ministry/PS level. There was however a chap that had to be downgraded overtime as he could not cut it. Nice guy though.

Still a high CEP, but slightly lower than safos. I think at that era, psc will do an informal ranking before assigning the A level grads to their respective govt organization. SAF usually got cream of the crop. Heng could have appeared to be too cautious and distanced at that time.

The other PPS to LKY who was untouchable in the civil service was Lim Siong Guan. Also a quiet and low profile chap. Was told when LSG was Head CS and a PS, other Perm Secs also takok this man.

You may be right but he is the only one in the cohort who is considered capable. He was actually the strategy lead for 2006 campaign but was replaced by Viv B in mid-stream. He has also covered or is covering all key Ministries required of a PM.

Kee Chiu is a votergetter - a HDB aunty killer, look at the high pants, haircut, manner of speech, single mum washerwoman background. Easy sell by grassroots. Takeover old man patch in grassroots. He is not going anywhere.
