Yah you can walk around in circles and dont realise it. Loss of familiar landmarks can be real bad in this case.

even SAS seasoned commandos got lost in Malaysia jungles . in March 1994, two teams of five British army soldiers attempt to conquer Low's gully . After 10 days lost, The Malaysian army is called to the rescue. Three weeks later, when starvation was about to make it's first victim, they were evacuated by helicopter.

Don't say I say what ha, last time when I was in training in Taiwan, we lobo so much that the officer cannot stand us anymore, he organized a topo day to tekan us and to show us how good he is.

He led the way with a map and compass while we just tagged along behind enjoying fruits, chocolates and biscuits and enjoying the scenery.

Recalled we were up a high hill where no more trees around. The officer looked around and triple checked the map and swear we were on highest hill, yet the surrounding hills looked even higher! We could not help sniggering looking at him.

After walked a few more hills which looked higher, all other hills looked even higher, including the one we just came from! He was amazed, we were not!

Ended up he radioed a jeep to fetch us back to base, in time for dinner. How embarrassing !

In any case, we enjoyed the walk even though we don't know why the heck we were there for (though we knew the officer was on wrong track the entire day but too arrogant to admit, so we just tagged along)! But the hospitality of the farmers were excellent with offers of fruits and drinks!

What topo training? You be more lost following a officer!

When Ah Bengs got lost, he would blame it on kuis who blocked him causing them to walk in circles. Best is to hire a guide. Even with hi tech amulets like gps or or simple compass, people walk in circles negotiating around ravines, impenetrable bush or slippery slopes.

All who enters the Malaysian jungle like Kota Tinggi should never wonder out of sight of the river. Will not get lost so easily. You have to respect the jungle for it can be very deceptive to those who venture into it for the first time.
