[h=3]Legend of "Botak Chin" (Tok Raja's Pidtta)[/h]
According to Malaysian high-profile criminal records, "Botak Chin" as he was widely known, was a notorious gangster and robber of the 1970s. He was criticized by the authorities for being a self-styled "Robin Hood".

It was rumoured that "Botak Chin" wore a 2480BE (ie: 1937 AD) batch Tok Raja pidtta and takrut( a kind of encased spell scroll, also made by Tok Raja). So whenever the police tried to arrest "Botak Chin", he could always suddenly disappear or be able to evade their vision.

It was believed this was because of the power brought by the Tok Raja pidtta. Pidttas are known to provide great protection, avoid danger and the ability to run off from your enemy(Pidtta used 2 hands to close eyes and face). "Botak Chin" was also rumoured to be invulnerable to bullets and weapons such as knives.

After repeated failures to arrest "Botak Chin", the Police had no choice but to seek Tok Raja for help. It was believed that with Tok Raja's assistance, the police finally managed to apprehend "Botak Chin".

For his notorious crimes, "Botak Chin" was sentenced by the Malaysian courts to execution by hanging.

"Botak Chin" had a final request: that he be allowed to wear his Tok Raja Pidtta during the execution.

The judger denied his request but promised to return him his Pidtta after it is confirmed that he is really dead.

After this high-profile incident of abuse, Tok Raja did not like to give out Pidtta amulets to the public. He did not want the public to abuse the power of this amulet. Tok Raja thus only gave the Pidtta amulet to whom he trusted. This remained so until Tok Raja passed away.

Tok Raja's Pidtta amulets are highly sought after by those doing 'informal' businesses like discotheques and pubs (for eg, the owners, managers and bouncers of discotheques and pubs), loan-sharking, drug-smuggling, running gambling dens and so on.

The Pidtta 2480BE made by Tok Raja can said to be the Pidtta king ofPidtta amulets. Amulet collectors also eagerly seek this Pidtta amulet because this batch of amulets is reputedly effective for wearing (ie: it is powerful), and worth it to collect(it has amulet collector's monetary investment value).

Laung Phor Kron Ratchanaren aka Tiger of Kelantan passed away in the 60's not long after his trip to Singapore.
Botak Chin would be around 9 - 10 years old back then
Wonder how the police sought help from the deceased Tok Raja

Oh thanks for sharing this piece of info. This story is rather famous though but if there's such a discrepancy like this then the one whom made up this story really didn't have any sense.

Interesting thread about Thai amulets..

The Malays up north in Kelantan may come under the Islamic PAS rule, but many of their Malays are also strong believers in Thai magic amulets.. Since Kelantan and Thailand shares a border, these Kelantanese often make the short trip across the border to Thai temples to obtain these amulets.. Some also seek the help of well known Thai monks there..

Most of them are pally with the Kelantanese Chinese.. Most of these Chinese from Kelantan speaks fluent Kelantan Malay and they're regular visitors of Thai temples often bringing their interested Mat friends together with them on temple trips..

The letter "K" is missing. It should be " Interesting crime story: Legend of Botak Chink" :D

I read from somewhere that the entire mudland probably even up to singapore used to be under thai/siam rule until the brits came and signed some treaty with them so that they controlled most of the malay peninsula with pattani and the rest of the southern thai states under thai rule.

ok here it is

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Siamese_Treaty_of_1909

Prior to the treaty the entire northern malaysia was under the control of siam.

I find it ironic that even though many kelantan malays are under the control of islam but still believe in animalistic, buddhist beliefs and yet across the border in southern thailand they want to split off to become a seperate islamic state.

I really wonder how many of the thais in thailand are malay in ethnicity. Since the original thais came from south china they look chinese but there is a significant number of thais that have the malay look but don't identify as malay. The only thais that would identify as malay would be those in southern thailand. I wonder what those dark skinned issan thais that look like malays but most likely aren't malays would be identified in their ethnic makeup. Thailand only has a history of 800 yrs which would mean that not too long ago these dark skinned malay looking ppl in central thailand, cambodia would have been speaking another language and had some other culture.

Have this ex Mat colleague.. He married a Muslim lady from Patani.. His father in law is a village shaman who often go to the neighbouring villages to learn some mystical arts from a few old monks.. One day the father in law gave him a Thai amulet that he had obtained from this old Thai monk..

My ex Mat collague wore it back in Spore.. One day a trailer hit his Hayabusa from behind at Tuas.. His Hayabusa bike was damaged badly, but he escaped with just few cuts on his arms.. Not sure if the amulet helped him that time.. But people sceptical about these things will say he's just plain lucky..

To tell you the truth even the local malays have these types of beliefs. I spoke to some thai amulet seller/ arjan fella before and he told me a malay person approached him to do some ritual or some type of prayer to aid him. I asked him aren't malays muslims so why would they believe in this. Without even missing a beat he told me yeah he's malay and a muslim but it's ok for him to approach me for this meaning that it's pretty common for local muslims to do these sorts of things. It also figures that malays here have bomoh practices and belief in black magic even though they are muslims. I would think staunch muslims would condemn belief in such practices.

This is probably similar to the thai hindu/buddhist practices. It's not uncommon to see hindu gods, chinese influenced buddhist figures like guan yin and the theravada buddhist figures all together in the same place. No problems at all. It's a bigger problem in places with abrahamic faiths that demand only beliefs in on religion, no fusion of different religions so to speak.
