More NS defaulters in 2011 than in 2010: Ng Eng Hen

By Monica Kotwani | Posted: 15 October 2012 2307 hrs

SINGAPORE: 259 Singaporeans and permanent residents (PRs) failed to enlist for National Service (NS) or return after their exit permits expired last year.

Of them, 78 were PRs.

This was an increase from the 204 NS defaulters in 2010.

In 2010, 148 of the defaulters were Singaporeans, while 56 were PRs.

Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen provided the six-year breakdown, from 2006 to 2011, of NS defaulter cases in a written parliamentary response to a question by Member of Parliament for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency, Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap.

Mr Faisal also wanted to know how many were resident and overseas Singaporeans.

Dr Ng said his ministry could not provide the updated place of residence for the defaulters as their whereabouts are unknown.

Never argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Dr Ng also commented on the issue of permanent residents and National Service.

"Better don't take up the PR if your children are not going to do NS. It's as simple as that. In our system if you don't fulfil your NS liabilities, even if you choose to give up your PR, there are harsh penalties," said Dr Ng.

"I have received many letters from families that are separated and they cannot come back to Singapore," he added.

Over the last five years, about a third of male foreigners who became PRs under the sponsorship of their parents renounced their PR status prior to serving NS.

What rubbish you taLKing?

For their small numbers due for enlistment, they comprise 30% of deserters....

Their numbers aren't small. Besides we don't expect much from them in the first place cos they are PR. They paid more for school fees n medical remember?

Oi Gong Chee Bye Kinana!:oIo:
More? How much more? Apparently not "MORE" enough for them to take up NS!

FUCK YOU UNDERSTAND?:oIo:

Just abolish compulsory NS. Offer starting pay $1500/month after 2 year increase to $2000 for lowest rank when complete BMT.
