PSLE bar has been raised too high

Indeed, but how and what you search on google makes a difference as well. I remember my uni professor said, employers don't hire people to memorise stuff but rather they will hire people that will help them solve their problems. Its problem solving skills that is important. Rote learning is not going to get you employed, rather, the ability to utilise google, and find the right answer and application of it that is going to make the difference.

I'm of the belief that the advent of Google search has diminished the value of rote learning substantially. Why should an employer shell out big money to employ expensive human wikipedias if he could get cheap unskilled workers and equip them with working manuals and computers? How much skill does it take to memorise and regurgitate? :rolleyes:

I don't know the "official" method but I'll have a go anyway :D

(3x + y) - (x + y) = 421 - 199
2x = 222
x = 111
4x = 444
4x + 2y = 421 + 199
444 + 2y = 620
2y = 620 - 444
y = 176/2
y = 88

y show u r not stupid.when others had done it n show already

They are so proud of this silly bar/model method. It is an explanation tool - not a mathematical tool for solving. It has caused countless poor kids to hate math.

My thoughts exactly. The bar/unit method of explanation to me is so much harder to understand and explain.

At this rate, in 10 years time, they expect kindie kids to do algebra then. In another 30 years, newborn should be able to start reciting shakesphere or something. When will it "end" !?

hi there

i agree with this comment:

The MAIN reason schools do kill creativity is because they kill the ability to be a thinker, a creator, and a provider. that is human nature. inturn they cause you to become a learner, a user and a consumer. they don't kill creativity they turn you into scum by societies standards by becoming a consumer instead of a provider. the way they do this isn't intentional "i hope." but how it's done is by turning your mindset into a receiver instead of a transmitter via teachers and students.understand?

primary 6 question.

A bag containing $2 and $5 notes had a total value of $511. 2 pieces of $5 notes were exchanged for $2 notes of similar value. In the end, the number of $5 notes was the same as the $2 notes. How many $2 notes were there at first?

tonychat that why your brain worth a penny.bcause u r not a thinker

AT the end there are equal number of $2 and $5 notes and their total amount is $511. Let 'x' be the number of notes of $2 and $5.

So 2x + 5x =511, thus x = 73.

In the end there are 73 pieces of $2 and 73 pieces of $5.

So in the beginning, there are 73-2 = 71 pieces of $5, and 73+5 =78 pieces of $2.

Is it correct?

I have a poodle. It hates to have its hair brushed. Would pretend not to hear me when I called. But the moment it hear my mouth chewing it comes quickly to me. Adults are bad news to kids. Especially Sinkie school teachers, these 40 year old virgins always worried about being raped. Every test papers sure got questions about crime. I have to teach my 11 year old nephew vocabulary words like "lodge" police reports. The cunts are always thinking about the time they were reading poetry at the Uni English class, primary 4 kids have to know who is William Wordsworth, he can be a pundek with an English name for all I care. Cheebyes even think it is cool to remember all the collective nouns including 'parliament of owls'. Big fucking deal. Tao Nan school reading list for primary 3 including the whole Harry Potter series. No wonder Sinkie mothers are not having second child. One already vomit blood. 3 subjects 3 tutors easily come up to $75 a week for tutors, no including the usual ballet class, violins, deportment, tae kwan do class.

PSLE is a WMD weapon of choice for the Lees. They have the best tutors, plus white horse privileges, every one of them get promoted to 4 star generals. If you fail PSLE, too bad, your parents hawker genes fault. Not happy izzit? We will bring in Pinoys, Myammar, Pundeks by the boatload to keep you poor and make you sell your homes and downgrade.

(68 X $2) + (73 X $5) will give you $501 only. So cannot be this way.

""2 pieces of $5 notes were exchanged for $2 notes of similar value.""

The above statement is important. 2 X $5 were taken out and replace with $2 notes of similar value. Meaning 5 X $2 notes was put in. The total value of the money remain unchanged at $511 throughout.
