He was 22, a full-time national serviceman (NSF), and married with a daughter when he met the 14-year-old student.

They started a relationship and she got pregnant after they had unprotected sex several times.

Today in court, Shanurfahmi Shariman was sentenced to two years’ jail on three charges of underage sex. Three other similar charges were taken into consideration, Channel NewsAsia reported.

The teen girl, who cannot be named, was a Secondary 3 student when they met in 2010.

Shanurfahmi told her that he was going to divorce his wife, and they would have sex at his home and in a tent at East Coast Park.

In 2011, the teenager got pregnant and later aborted the five-month-old baby.

In court, District Judge Low Wee Ping, who noted that Shanurfahmi already had a child born out of wedlock, pointed out the trauma caused to the girl due to the unwanted pregnancy and abortion.

The judge said the law had to be "very severe, not only to serve as a deterrence, but also to protect young girls like this victim", Channel NewsAsia reported.

In Singapore, it is illegal to have sex with a girl under 16 years old. Anyone convicted could face up to 10 years’ jail and up to S$10,000 in fines for each charge.
