Job Cuts : 17 Axed from Singapore Panasonic Electronic Devices
Japanese electronics company Panasonic has started to let the axe fall on workers in Singapore.
At least 17 of them, largely rank-and-file, have been let go from Panasonic Electronics Devices Singapore - one of the company's 11 divisions.
The company's Director of Corporate Communications for Panasonic Asia Pacific, Mr Katsumi Takahashi told 938 LIVE, the company made the cuts to improve the overall efficiency of its operations in Singapore and Batam.
But the company has been in touch with the union to provide retraining and employment assistance for affected employees.
They've been with the company for an average of 15 years.

"We've been in discussion with the company on how to assist the workers who're affected by the retrenchment. We're then working closely with the NTUC e2i to see how to help the workers, put them through an employability workshop and find alternative employment for them."
Mr Takahashi adds that the company has no plans at present to let more workers go.
However, 938 LIVE understands that more layoffs could come by March next year and they're likely to come from the administrative departments.
