2. we had the oden katong carpark.
3. i just loved its fried prawn noodles!

Odean Katong was near the old Katong Police Station, the Red House, Shanghai restaurant, ... yes I remember. There was another cinema nearby, can't really recall its name... Princess or something like that. Further down there is another cinema with no air conditioning.

In the 1970s, Saturdays were special because RTS will start to broadcast televsion programmes from the afternoon. I especially looked forward to the afternoon matinee on those days.

I remember going to the defunct Bras Basah Community Centre, which was located behind the North Bridge Commercial Complex, to watch TV. The TV was perched high in a box which was locked during the day. Nearby is Liang Seah Street where a man, a little loose in the head, used to paint Liang Seah Street (nearer to the North Bridge Road junction) with all sorts of funny words and pictures.

I remember watching Television from the community centre in Tiong Bahru estate, in the centre of Blocks, 72,73,74,75, 76 Seng Poh Road, the TV will be turned on at the certain time of the evening ( forgot what time), played the swings there & table tennis. Not many homes have TV way back then & we rented rooms there, so no TV till we got our own house later, it was a colour Telefunken set. The one with an wooden enclosure, and wooden accordion front sliding doors with a keyhole in the centre. Naughty children are locked out of watching TV shows & examination time, the TV is locked. I remember the TV was not IC's but TUBES with the lighted bulb, it wasn't rare that it will burn & smoke comes out from the chassis & popped! goes off with a poof! and right on the middle of an exciting scene on TV, way back then, there was no way to record that! The repair cost per visit was not cheap, so we sign a contract with the company yearly.

Yes, it was the mid 70s and the posters were found all over but n clue what it meant and who did at least for a few weeks. Then they revealed that it was a new age church finding Jesus. They paid $230k for the campaign, a huge sum in those days.

I remember the "I FOUND IT!" posters......

Along the same vein, anyone remember a chap hitting a short bamboo with a stick heralding the arrival of the fishball noodle. It was catchy tune .

I remember it was called "Tok Tok" mee similar to the sound the bamboo instruments made. Basically the cyclist will cycle around the estate with his bamboo instrument and take orders from customers. He will then cycle probably back to his kampong or nearby stall where the noodles were cooked and balanced them finely on his bicycle before delivering to the hungry customers.

Kenneth Williams on one minute or something from BBC at noon!? Radio Request on what day, now I have forgotten & the Top of the Pops, Hit Parade etc on Sunday....00:00 you hear the "Majullah Singapura" the radio station is closed...and there was not that many back then. Brian Richmond, JJ, Chris whatever..Vernon something...on radio! Was it news in brief after 12 in the afternoon, where we get important news announcement... there was no twitter , Facebook, what apps & the internet it was the radio announcement & Redifussion!

One afternoon announcement I will never forget, the place I will never forget, it was at old airport road hawker center, July 20 1973, the radio announced that Bruce Lee had passed away!, there was a great disbelieved by one & all listening to the news, for he was filming "the game of death" then & we thought it was his publicity stunt.

It was like the line from Don Macleans "American Pie", "the day the music died" but this was "the day Bruce Lee died", who can forget the long line for tickets for his movies, from Orchard Cinema all the way down to PUB Building at to the junction of Killiney Road? and Riot Squad had to be called in! Who can forget, we have to go to Queen Street / Ophir Road to take the South Johore Bus to JB to watch the uncensored version of Bruce Lee movies, plus Woodstock & if I could remember Virign Soldier...Orange something..my mind slips me! etc

Can anyone recall the old Jalan Besar stadium hosting a car stunt event back in the 1970s? I used to stay at the walk-up apartments opposite the stadium and I remember hearing the roars of the car engines as the unit that I was living in wasn't on the high floor so I couldn't watch what's happening inside.

Going to the defunct New World Amusement Park was always a treat. There were all sorts of game stalls there but the shooting stall was the one I was most intrigued. At the stall, the operator will hand you a loaded rifle by pulling a lever (guess it was an air rifle?) and you are to shoot empty bottles hanging deeper into the stall. I never got to try because the rifle was longer than I was tall!
