Anyone Owns a boat?

It is true that luxury boats cost much more than luxury cars especially on maintenance and dry parking which alone can cost you more than $1k a month.

My advice to Sinkies who love boating... emigrate to NZ! It's a boaties' paradise.... thousands of miles of coastline...

I heard someone said Singapore also got a very long coastline

Gosh, didn't know there are so many well-to-do cats lurking around here. I don't own a boat, but if I had that kind of dough to buy me a rich-boy's toy, I'd get me a sailing yatch. Don't fancy powerboats.

If ya own a "luxury" boat, maintenance is almost a full-time occupation. Expect to spend entire weekends at the marina taking care of it, keeping the barnacles off the hull.

Cheers!

Thinking of buying a Boat, Got around 200k to spend.

No boat license, Knows no one who owns one, never been on a private boat(Other then the boat to/from Tekong and Batam) and have totally no idea about the cost etc. parking, maintenance, make and model......

Why? I just think a boat is cool and it allows me to get away from the hustle and bustle of the City and away from Sinkies.

Its not a confirm Buy, Today is only the 1st day researching about it.

Please share with me anything you guys know about boats and etc.. Singapore waters, license, parking.

I had the same curiosity about buying a boat a while back, even did the math on budget and what kinds of models I could afford, but what really surprised me was the ongoing costs. Moorage, insurance, regular maintenance, all these add up much quicker than most first-timers expect. Learning about the licensing process and rules for where you can go took me some time! If I could offer any advice, it’s maybe try renting or getting into a smaller used boat first so you know what’s really involved. I actually found cleaning and engine care to be the most annoying part, much more so than the upfront buying process.

If you’re ever looking for examples of the kind of yacht servicing and management needed to keep a boat running smoothly, I stumbled on a company based in North Vancouver: https://ignitionmarine.com/ that covers pretty much everything, from repairs to even sales and financing. It really opened my eyes to what goes into proper boat ownership, especially if you care about long-term value and want high-quality work.
