This is from Fb posting I saw.

WP MP Gerald Giam brought up a very valid issue at the By -Election Rally- The Govt collected 130 million in medishield premiums, but the payout was so little. This is very true- the payouts are very liitle. I have been paying medishield premiums for both myself and my wife since its inception, but we find it so difficult to make a claim. Recently, I went for a colonoscopy at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and was charged $484.50, but was told that I cannot claim a single cent from medishield because the scheme is only for operations and bigger bills. This scheme needs to be reviewed so that more of our older citizens can benefit from the paying insurance at an affordable cost.

What is the point of paying premiums year in and year out when no claims can be made? There must also be greater transparency on medishield premiums paid through the annual CPF statements so that account holders are aware of how much they have paid. This has never been done. Why is this so?

For senior citizens, the rising medical costs are indeed worrisome and the government needs to provide more support for this group who have contributed to the economy in the past.

There are no subsidies given on non-standard drugs for some medications such as Glucobay, which can cost as much as $78 for 3 months supply. A bottle of 200ML Lactus purchased at the polyclinic cost $1.40 while the same amount purchased at Tan Tock Seng cost $3.50. So why the big difference? Blood tests for patients suffering from diabetes at polyclinics have shot up from $12 to $13.50, and nobody notices it until they scrutinise the bill.

What's new?
Any one here able to articulate clearly all the various "shield" products and help folks to plan?
There is some review underway of these various scams; oops, I mean 'shield' products.

Medisave, medishield, eldershield, cpf minimum sum, medisave minimum sum, and what else is not the pap scam?

Eldershield is the biggest scam. Even when a person is disabled, the person may not qualify for eldershield.
Read the fine print carefully. If you have anyone in your family paying for eldershield, do them a favour and stop it for them.

I have opted out of eldershield, when they sent the forms to me. Most of us have paid premiums for those so called low cost insurance one of it is dependants protection scheme, it was later farmed out to the private insurance companies.

One pay an 'affordable' premiums every year & receive annual statement from your insurer & it shows your bonus you will receive when you cash in your insurance ( provided you are dead).:p

(1) The sum insured for
(2) The bonus amount
(3) Nomination
(4) Age ceiling & end year

The sum assured for & the bonus are just paper value only, it will become a cash value to your descendants, when you are dead. The inusrance is up to 60 years only & all the years of premiums & the bonus amount stated is just on paper only. That means if for 30 years of premiums you pay, is thank you very much, when you reah 60 and didn't die yet!:D The nomination for this DPS defer from your CPF, you have to sign a different nomination form.

All these, I never bothere to find out, till of late, when I had to make medical claims through Medishield, and I think many of us, like me, just PAY and never ask!!:o

I still cannot understand the part when we have more than enough Medisave in our account, it is never enough to pay for hospitalization fees, we have to use our medishield as well, and medishield will not pay for the first $2,000 and other restrictions.

In some cases , one have to pay cash, & in order to pay less, one have to upgrade the Medidhield for a higher premiums plus a cash rider.

You thought that medisave & medishield will cover you, think again, better don't get gravely ill, we are not 'penang cow', you need only to pay $8...that is for the previlege class.

So, examine your CPF & CPF insurance schemes very carefully. You may have a shock, when you need to use it.;)

That Dr Money fella and Tan Kin Lian can give their views on these issues, get them in the msm and see if the fappies respond...

medishield is a scam but if don't have, kana scam lagi more money by PAP...................

Consider best among all insurance company.

Well, this is my point of view: My father-in-law got kidney problems for 10+ years and even after transplant the kidneys failed eventually and towards the end stage, he contracted liver cancer due to the medicines he was taking as the liver just could not cope with the medicines for the kidneys. He wasn't eligible to buy insurance due to his condition and hence no shield of any kind.

In the end, all paid through medisave as he worked till the day he could not walk and hence his medisave was sizeable. No medishield claimable as he wasn't qualified. To get a feeling of whether medishield is a scam, please visit the official website on CPF, you would not be able to find finer prints and wonder why leave so much blank space instead of making the fonts larger for easier reading. The best part is the "click here" for a complete list of hospitals and medical institutions participating in the Medisave scheme. the "Here" link word is unusually small.
