Hygiene horror: Straws cut to be reused at Little India 7-Eleven

STOMPer Winnie was shocked to find these straws she received at a 7-Eleven outlet had rough, uneven ends and were of unequal length. She feels that they might have been cut by staff, so they could be reused.

The STOMPer wrote:

"Just when 91.3fm's Married Men radio show were sharing about local coffee shops cutting and reusing straws, I was utterly disgusted when I encountered the same incident at the 7-Eleven on Serangoon Road, Little India.

"I was drinking from one of the two straws I took from the counter when I felt the uneven surface in my lips.

"I looked closely at them and to my horror noticed the straws had been unevenly cut and were of different lengths!

"This had really tarnished my view of 7-Eleven and I must broadcast this to let Singaporeans know how disgusting some store keepers are these days!"

stupid stomper ....the straw dont look like being cut ...because of the uneven end . if ppl want to reused straw they will just wash it . more like the supplier of straw never do QC when selling them to that 7 11 .

Yah lah. Not everything can blame the indians. They are not that smart enough to think of ways to cheat customers this way. they just anyhow calculate the indian rojak and charge you.

i dont think ppl actucally recycle straw to cut cost . how much can they save ? and its not worth the risk if ppl found out ...it will affect their biz .

and coffeeshop its easy to collect back the straws......7-11 customers buy and go off........where to find the straws?

The glasses at the coffee shops are already recycled...hahaha......I had a FT colleague that refused to drink from the glasses at coffee shops after looking atthe faded glass......quote - "I will not have my lips touch the space that has been touched by 10,000 lips before"......

since the stomper so stupid ...im not surprise that if he or she said the 7-11 staff follow behind the customer until the customer finish the drink just because of one straw .

But honestly speaking, nowadays in Chingalore, most of the utensils in hawker centres looked poorly washed. I will always dipped it into the soup(then discard the soup) and clean the utensils with my tissues.

I remember that some hawkers used to do this in the old days. However they washed the straws & not cut them

I guess Spore is going retro. As for alienating customers, they are probably foreigners & less likely to be regular or repeat customers.

errrr...don't remember that...I think he only ate at the stalls with disposable utensils, plastics forks, wooden chopsticks. ya, sometimes, I think ta-pao from home...btw, he not from the usual traditional FT countries mentioned here....
