Advice Needed - Snail Mail

Besides the points contributed by brothers here especially Scroobal, I would love to add another point. In this stressful society that we lives in, there might be things that we do not want to share with our friends or family members. Through such correspondence, people could air their unhappiness to a "listening ear"

Yes, there're things that you could share with pen pals, not necessarily bad things, but just things not suitable to be shared with parents, elders or even siblings.

Couple of attractions of sending snail mail
1. Stamps from all over
2) the art of writing
3) penning limericks and poems
4) Nostalgia
5) keeping to a operating rhythm like a swinging pendulum, can be quite comforting.
6) recording down the events of the day, penning your thoughts and reflecting on it. A blog but on the old system.

7) you can send or receive perfume scents.

did you occasionally include 1 or 2 strands of pubic hair in your letters to your female pen pals? ....i think i did :)

After knowing my net friends from ICQ,
i write and sent postcards to them,
they do the same.
One friend whenever she goes for tour
she will send me post card from that country.

Wow, ICQ was a at least 15 years ago? That was the trend last time. Every night going online to wait for the flower to turn green and hear the "UH OH" sound. Back then, AlamakChat was also the in thing. Wondering if Alamaking was a frequent there :D

There's another chatroom like ICQ, cant remember that name, all can talk together 1, LOL

Those days, my pen pals were mostly Americans, Canadians, British or Australians. The postage stamp alone per letter was S$1, big sum for a schoolboy unless got sideline income. Locals? I wasn't interested as pen pals after the first exchange of letters, postage very cheap, just 10c. Interested, just meet up and see how.

Actually I regret the time and effort posting those love letters and greeting cards to her.. It hold no sentimental value for her.. :o :( :o :(

We used to do stupid things for love, don't we? I used to make all my ex write love letters/repention letters to me when we were dating. I still keep those in my mother's house until one fine day when I had to bring all my barang barang to my own house. My mother actually remembered and hid those letters well in one of the boxes but forgot to warn me to go retrieve them. My little tigress as usual was hardworking and began to unpack the boxes as they arrived and I happened to be out working. When I came on, she was sitting at the sofa looking at me........

The time and effort to do those things were already meaningful and memorable, even if laughable on hindsight. http://youtu.be/a3WbTU_awCY

Snail Mail Yawn

You mean no one uses a pigeon anymore ? Now, they go for snails. A horse for a dispatch rider will be great.

Re: Snail Mail Yawn

I think the earliest postal system was devised by Chinese, with regional post offices called 驿馆, where couriers on horsebacks (postmen) got to rest and pass relays from stations to stations across the thousands of the vast China. The Japanese still use the word Eki (駅 = 驿)for their railway stations.

Like the Three Kingdoms dispatch rider who carried the letter from one camp to another. A general would ask someone to let the dispatch rider to change horse as his would have been tired after a long distance sprint. But, they forgot the messenger could be tired too.

They did let their couriers rest and change shifts in the stations unless it was designated imperial express, i.e. message to emperor or edict from emperor in which it was customary protocol that the message must not change hands between couriers until delivered to recipient.
