You half past six Sinkies can forget about ever owning a car in the near future.

COEs will reach $150,000 in the open category within a year. PAP has decided to bite the political bullet. They realised it's not sustainable in the long term for continuing growth in the vehicle population. Equation of car owner aspirants versus pragmatic public transport users among its citizens is a no brainer.

The good news will be those who intend to give up their cars in the near future will benefit from a windfall of the cars' residual value.

So in conclusion, you and your kids when they grow up can enjoy the view from MRT trains, taxis and buses the elite and the FT rich driving their cars. But remember the taxi fares will cost twice as much! LOL

I think only dumbasses pay the price of a mercedes for a toyota and still brag about his stupidity.

Emigrate lah! Every Singaporean can afford a merc or a bmw in angmo countries.

Ironically, this will only spur more Sinkies to purchase a car. Even if it means getting into hefty debt to acquire a car.

Because of the artificially inflated price (COE), and the diminished necessity of a car in Singapore compared to other countries (public transport), the car has become a de facto status symbol. Doesn't matter if it is second hand or a piece of shit car. Four wheels impresses relatives, creates envy in no-car neighbours, wows co-workers, moistens panties and boosts your popularity during reservist.

A car is not a tool, but a status symbol and the promise of a lifestyle. Observe those condo ads on tv: always depicting the sophisticated, happy, luxurious, comfortable life. A clever and often used trick in marketing.

And those doing transportation can go and die and close shops. Business cannot buy lorry, pickup and van, all have to borrow loans, die very jiatlah.

I would suggest all businesses in singapore relocate to malaysia better. Support malaysia better!

Fuck the pap to hell.

If they breed, you will bleed.

To me a car is a convenience & I've owned a vehicle l in the past but at today's prices I'm unwilling to pay the PAP tax. I've made adjustments like buying a home near to town. It's just not worth getting into debt & part of the reason I am looking for a new home elsewhere;)

Agree. For the middle class and below, buying a car in Sinking land is one step nearer to ultimate slavery. How many years must one work just to repay the COE alone, not including the car?

Taxi is in the 1600cc and below cat.
if it keeps going up, taxi driver how to survive,
then taxi's fare will be sky rocket.

Simple math....Double the COE cost....double the fare....If not, you want to drive?...LOL
