Geography as well as history, my friend. The north-west shore of Penang island is the gateway to Straits of Malacca. It'd take the first brunt of excess water entering the straits before the Sumatra sheltering effect cushioning off the rest of peninsula Malaya and Singapore. The northward spill and splash would go to unsheltered Thai islands like Phuket. There were other Thai islands hit too, but since uninhabited, nobody noticed or gave a damn. Tsunami 2004.

I think there's little chance of a tsunami hitting Spore. Even if there was it would hit Sentosa the parts that only matter if you are a foreigner.
