Dr Tan speculates that a possible strategy for PM Lee would be to call for a by-election in his Ang Mo Kio GRC together with Hougang single member constituency.

Dr Tan wrote, “In other words, call not one but two by-elections. This will be very interesting as the politics of voting will change, especially if PM promises the people of Hougang that Hougang will be part of his Town Council.”

Bro, the talk about AMK in a BE first surfaced after a week following Yaw's note to the speaker of parliament. I did not take it seriously as it was not talked about in the usual reliable circles, though it made the usual public grapevines. WIth TCB mentioning it, it does carry weight.

I suspect that PAP is keen to bring in someone into cabinet and just doing it for that purpose. It will also help them water down any WP victory. SPH will spend more time on AMK and give Hougang a lower profile. I hope no party contest AMK to take a bite from their thunder.

very quick analysis of Dr Tan CB's notion of 2 BEs (1 AMK BE & 1 Hougang BE):
it is not totally out of the question, certainly feasible but there's no valid call for this need.
1. to throw in a new character into the scene akin to how TCH came on board, giving him/her the exposure at Hougang BE alone suffice.
2. why risk garnering a lower vote count at AMK GRC (if there's any AMK GRC BE to begin with) and losing Hougang SMC at one go?
the sums don't add up for me tiny brain :p:p:p

I am of the view that if there is a BE in AMK (which I think is not likely), WP should field a team there as well. The only party that contested there last time was RP which no one takes seriously, and WP was there in 2006. The reason for the BE was due to WP anyway, and it has the resources to cover both Hougang and AMK.

Yes, win-win for WP. I am pretty certain WP will perform much better than the RP team in the last GE. It will be a double blow for the MIW to lose Hougang again and to lose more votes in AMK GRC. Enough credible chaps to form a GRC team.

You may not get a team of moles or one in an SMC but invisible hands will ensure a team and/or individual surfaces. Been taking place for decades. Be more cautious of the emotional chaps.
