Cmdr. Jay Wylie was also sentenced to be dismissed from the Navy, under a plea bargain with military prosecutors. Wylie was relieved of command of the Everett, Wash.-based ship in April when the allegations surfaced.

Wylie, 40, a 19-year veteran of the Navy, pleaded guilty to rape, aggravated sexual assault, abusive sexual content and conduct unbecoming an officer.

One incident occurred while the ship was at its home port, the other during a visit to the Seychelles. During one of the incidents, Wylie was drunk, according to court documents.

The trial was shifted to San Diego after Wylie was reassigned to a command here. He was immediately taken to the brig at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station after Friday's court hearing.

A US Navy commander will serve more than three years behind bars after admitting sexual assault and raping two of his female sailors.

A military judge ordered Jay Wylie's dismissal and sentenced him to confinement.

Navy spokeswoman Sheila Murray said Wylie was sentenced to 10 years, but would serve 42 months as part of a plea deal.

During the San Diego, California, hearing, the judge also ordered that Wylie forfeit future benefits.

He was immediately sent to the brig at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station.

His lawyer Jeremiah Sullivan said Wylie was extremely remorseful.

Mr Sullivan said the dismissal case would be appealed, but only because all dismissal cases automatically go through such a process.

According to the navy, Wylie got drunk on two occasions and sexually assaulted women who were on the destroyer he commanded.

"He wanted to make clear that he's taking full responsibility and accountability for his misconduct," said Mr Sullivan.

"(Wylie) could not have been more remorseful to the victims."

Twenty officers have been relieved of command by the navy this year.

Crimes, of a sexual nature or otherwise, are vigorously investigated and adjudicated as appropriate by the navy, said Ms Murray.

"We hold our people accountable and we expect commanding officers to uphold the highest personal and professional standards," she said.

SAN DIEGO — A Navy ship commander is facing a military court hearing in San Diego Friday on accusations of sexually assaulting two women on his crew.

Cmdr. Jay Wylie will undergo a general court-martial, the military court reserved for the most serious offenses, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune (http://bit.Iy/tshngx).

Wylie is the former skipper of the Everett, Wash.-based destroyer USS Momsen.

Wylie’s attorney, Jeremiah Sullivan, wouldn’t say Thursday what kind of plea his client will enter but told the newspaper that Wylie will “take full responsibility for his actions.”

According to the Navy, Wylie got drunk on two occasions and sexually assaulted the women.

The first incident alleges that on New Year’s Eve, Wylie pinned a junior female officer, tried to kiss her and assaulted her with his hand up her skirt.

A month later, he allegedly tried to persuade her to keep quiet.

In April, Wylie pressured a junior enlisted sailor to come to his room, where he allegedly kissed her and sexually assaulted her.

The trial will be held at San Diego Naval Base and is expected to last one day.

Wylie has served the Navy for 19 years.

Twenty officers have been relieved of command by the Navy this year.

Navy Cmdr. Jay Wylie pleaded guilty Friday to charges of sexually assaulting two female sailors assigned to the Everett, Wash.-based destroyer that he commanded.

As part of a plea deal, the 19-year naval officer will serve 42 months in the brig at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, according to a Navy news release that describes the terms of the agreement.

Wylie was accused of getting drunk in front of the crew of the destroyer Momsen and on two occasions this year forcing himself on a different woman in his command and sexually assaulting her with his hand or mouth. Details of the charges are here.

Wylie pleaded guilty to one count of rape, one count of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of abusive sexual contact and three counts of conduct unbecoming an officer.

A military judge accepted his guilty plea at a general court-martial at San Diego Naval Base. The sentence she handed down called for 10 years in the brig, forfeiture of all pay and dismissal from the Navy.

As is common with military guilty pleas, a pre-trial agreement had been forged that guaranteed Wylie would get either the judge's sentence, or the amount approved in the plea deal – whichever is lower.

According to the Navy Times, the agreement also allows some pay and allowances to continue to go to his wife and children.

The two female victims in the case were consulted on the amount of jail time indicated in the pre-trial agreement, Navy spokeswoman Sheila Murray said Friday.

The hearing was moved to San Diego because Wylie was transferred to a base here.

Traditionally, it has never been a naval tradition for females to serve onboard any ships in any navy. Some broke the traditions and this is what happen. Remember the accident involving the 2 female navy sailors onboard a SG Navy mine hunter or some other vessels? No discrimination against the females but naval jobs are still more appropriate for the males.

tradition or no tradition, there's no excuse for an officer to commit crimes against women in the navy or anywhere. if going by your logic, women shouldn't be out of their caves as traditionally men hunted and gathered food while women stayed in caves and protected their children.

Woman shouldn't be allowed in the military, especially not in expeditionary troops or navy vessels out at sea for extended periods.
