the moon will soon rise and fill with light
the ordinary folks will be raised from their grief
the rabid dogs and thugs will plan their flight
the weak and the bullied will fill with great relief

the moon will soon shine upon the evil pack
the bullies and hooligans will dig their graves
the evil and vile will receive their tags
one by one will be buried with their sordid tales

SINGAPORE: Singapore's founding Prime Minister and former Minister Mentor, Lee Kuan Yew, received a standing ovation from Members of Parliament and Cabinet Ministers in Parliament's Chamber on Monday on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

The standing ovation came after Leader of the House and Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen delivered a special address to congratulate Mr Lee on the occasion.

Dr Ng noted that Mr Lee has been a member of Singapore's legislature for 58 years since 1955 when he was elected into the first Legislative Assembly of Singapore.

"But it is what Mr Lee has accomplished for Singapore over that lifetime of service and struggle that is astonishing and without peer," said Dr Ng.

On behalf of all Members, Dr Ng expressed Singaporeans' profound admiration and gratitude on Mr Lee's birthday.

Dr Ng said: "Shakespeare wrote, 'Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them'.

"Singapore was not born into greatness but hardship and poverty. Mr Lee through his singular mission and dedication steered this country into independence and laid the very foundations that transformed Singapore into a modern and thriving metropolis.

"He led and forged a nation which today is admired worldwide for its prosperity, harmony and stability. In lifting an entire nation and improving countless lives of Singaporeans of several generations, Mr Lee Kuan Yew has left a lasting legacy for all of us and achieved greatness.

"Madam Speaker, Members of this House are delighted to be able to share this special occasion on his 90th birthday, with Mr Lee in this House, and he has made special efforts to be in this House and against doctor's advice. All MPs wish him happiness and continued good health. Happy Birthday!"

In a Facebook posting, Minister of State for National Development and MP for Jurong GRC, Desmond Lee, said Mr Lee later cut a birthday cake at a simple party with MPs and Parliament staff.

Future generations of citizens should aspire towards former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's unwavering and total dedication to Singapore, says Education Minister Heng Swee Keat,at a conference to mark the 90th birthday of Singapore's founding father.

SINGAPORE: Former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's unwavering and total dedication to Singapore is something future generations of citizens should aspire to.

Education Minister Heng Swee Keat made this remark at a conference on Monday marking the 90th birthday celebration of Singapore's founding father.

Mr Heng was one of several who spoke at the conference to discuss the thinking - some novel and controversial - behind Mr Lee's strategies in bringing Singapore from Third World to First.

Mr Heng served as Mr Lee's Principal Private Secretary for three years, and he provided insights into Mr Lee's political and private life.

As a leader, Mr Lee had a single-minded focus on achieving results and if things went wrong, he did not sweep them aside, said Mr Heng.

He cited the example of the Singapore-China Suzhou Industrial Park project which ran into problems when it was launched.

Mr Heng said Mr Lee raised problems and disagreements in public, proposing radical changes to the shareholding structure of the project, until the partnership was back on track.

As a person, Mr Lee has a deep sense of care for Singaporeans, especially the disadvantaged, said Mr Heng.

"We live today in a different world that demands of us new ideas and approaches. But there is one quality of Mr Lee Kuan Yew's that we can, and need to, aspire towards: Mr Lee's unwavering and total dedication to Singapore, to keeping Singapore successful so that Singaporeans may determine our own destiny and lead meaningful, fulfilling lives," said Mr Heng.

Respect and loyalty cannot be misplaced.

What so great about a tyrant who imprisoned people without trial whom he sees as a political threat to him?

Despite having LKY's father whose gambling habit puts strains on his relationship with his wife (LKY's mother). His father would gamble at the Chinese Swimming Club and at times return home in an angry mood, demanding jewellery from his wife (LKY's mother) to pawn for more funds to continue.

Now you know why old fart says "build casinos over my dead body".
Despite all that, he goes ahead to build not one, but two casinos .
So what so great about that!

kopiuncle, you are just a blind sycophant.

i see not a single iota of respect here
for a man who has done so much
i see not a single thread of admiration
for a man who stands out as a great leader
i see not a single whisper of love
for a man who has spent his life to build a nation
i see nothing but scorn, contempt and poison
i see nothing but curses and ill will
for a man who has committed his life to
building singapore and transforming it
it is so sad to witness so many failures here
so many recalcitrants and so many small people
lacking in respect, lacking in magnanimosity, lacking in decorum
relishing in their own silly indulgences
wallowing in their own stupidities and foolery
devoid of and decency and humanity....

I need not give undeserved respect to one
Who has done much to enrich his family
I have nothing but contempt for such a man
As would fix those he sees as a threat
I have no need or desire to offer adolation
To one who takes credit for the work of others

I need not be afraid to say that like most
Disgust is how I feel for refusal to go gracefully
Like the truly great leader of similar vintage
Charities the Great Mandela took pains to form
Whereas Old Fart used public resources
In a vain attempt to create so-called legacy

To the young generations of Sinkieland
The verdict is all too clear
Old Fart is nothing but a cruel dictator
They will not shed any tear
When he finally kicks the bucket
But please we want it
To take place slowly and painfully

lau lee too tired/weak to walk?

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/standing-o...-kuan-yew-on-his-90th-birthday-095927026.html

He was wheeled into parliament at 4:20pm, just as Monday’s session was about to be adjourned for the day.

Minister for Social and Family development Chan Chun Sing was in the middle of his response to an adjournment motion on children in disadvantaged families when he paused mid-sentence as three men wheeled Lee Kuan Yew to his seat in the first row facing the cabinet, between Lam Pin Min and Mah Bow Tan.

As he was unable to stand on his own, the three men helped lift him out of his silver wheelchair and into his seat. Wearing his signature black New Balance sneakers, long black socks and regular Parliamentary attire of a white shirt, black pants and a plain black jacket, Lee was there for a special reason.

Singapore's first prime minister, who turned 90 on Monday, was celebrated for his long service in Parliament, as well as his contributions to the country, and was given a 30-second standing ovation by MPs present — some of whom arrived at around 4pm seemingly just to witness the occasion.

A short tribute speech by leader of the house and Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen hailed Lee's 58-year parliamentary membership. This was greeted with much armchair-thumping and was celebrated as "a remarkable record", marking a "lifetime of service and struggle”.

Ng quoted Shakespeare on greatness, noting that any attempt to recount Lee's career would "amount to injustice" to his "lasting legacy".

He also added that Lee had made special effort to be present on Monday afternoon, "against his doctor's advice", sparking laughter from the members present. Lee himself cracked a smile.

Moments later, however, Ng concluded his speech to rousing applause and as the members stood in ovation, including those who were present in the public gallery, Lee himself moved to stand, and was helped up by four others including Mah and Lam.

Shortly after Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob adjourned session, to which Lee still inclined his head, MPs lined up to greet him and shake his hand. These included all the opposition and Non-constituency MPs, as well as several Nominated MPs.

you are brave to speak against the evil
you are brave to speak against the vile
you are brave to speak against the tyranny
you too are brave to defend the country's hegemony

many will speak against you
many will ridicule at your defence
they will humiliate you, taunt you, threaten you
many will look upon you with scorn and contempt
for the love of my country, i will not uproot
no amount of threat and intimidations will
prevent me from saying what i believe is the truth
majulah singapura!!!

Title is misleading. World leaders are key countries--US, Russia, France G8/20 members. I dont see all these countries greeting him.
