Syariah police unit to be finalised soon, says Jakim – Bernama

The setting up of the syariah police unit will be finalised soon, Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) Director-General Datuk Othman Mustafa said today.

He said the department, the Home Ministry and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) would meet soon to discuss the matter.

"The first stage on the setting up of the police unit will be known next week," he told reporters at a media conference after the Federal Territory Maulidur Rasul celebration in Kuala Lumpur today.

Last night, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the ministry would work with Jakim in addressing issues on the enforcement of Islamic laws with the setting up of the syariah police unit.

He said the syariah police unit would comprise degree graduates in Islamic studies. –

When it comes to push and shove, UMNO beleaguered by falling popularity and votes may resort to the extremes just to remain in power at all costs. We cannot discount desperate times calls for desperate measures and the fear within UMNO is very real after the last elections. Najib is a weak leader without the strong support of Mahathir who controls the "Council" that oversees the premiership. This "Council" was the brainchild of Mahathir who felt uneasy after handing his powers to Pak Lah, who turned around and dismantled Mahathir's pet projects (remember the crooked bridge?).

As the saying goes, a knife is a good tool but can be used for evil purposes too.

Historically we have ties that bind and whatever happens in Malaysia will definitely affect us. Look at the "Malaysia Section" of this forum and the number of members that had invested in properties and the number who live there. We have also made commitments in the Iskandar Project and we still continue to draw some of our water from Johor. Today, and even at this time, check the Causeway Cam and see the thousands of Singaporeans entering Malaysia. Malaysia is important to Singapore and I believe Singapore is important to them. Without good leadership, if Malaysia goes to the extreme, it will have an impact on Singapore and us.

We can keep ties on a strictly business relationship. That should not be a problem. All Sinkies who hold native passports(not naturalised) and who do not wish to live under Islamic law should be persuaded to liquidate their assets and come home or face the consequences. All Malaysians including Malaysian Chinese must be barred from entering Singapore in the event of any political or social change in Mudland. That is their problem as this country is full.

"We are more Muslim" than you game one upmanship between UMNO and PAS has widen further the racial harmony of the country and foolish remarks made by their PM and DPM did nothing to ease the tensions.
