Private messages cannot be read by the host or the moderators. In order to read them, a database hack would have to be installed.
Passwords are encrypted and cannot be read by admin. However, in theory, I can hijack any account by changing the email address and sending a new password to my email address. This applies to all forums vbulletin, phpbb, smf etc.
