LVG has already covered himself by claiming that his teams historically never start well.

Brendan Rogers must be smiling now. Giggsy will have to eat his words for defending LVG.

The Liverpool boss believes his Manchester United counterpart has never experienced such a competitive and hotly-contested division before and is anticipating an open title race

somewhere drowning his sorrows.
Lousy opener, but devilish designs ...can't do worse than last season's 7. With 9 bums off the bench, and no more signings yet in a fortnight ...still historic home loss is a bitter pill.

We broke many records last season, this yet another plus:(

It was never a penalty in the first place and justice was served.

QPR will finish below Hull but neither will be relegated.

Shit! QPR will be lucky to avoid relegation on this performance. Charlie Austin needs to practice how to take a penalty.

The defence was in 6s and 7s at times. Perhaps Luke Shaw would have done better if he was fit to play. Calum Chambers did quite well for Arsenal v Man C.

Maybe Moyes is with a glass of wine somewhere and having a quiet chuckle. Anyway most figure that Chelsea or Man C will take the title this year with MU , Arsenal and Liverpool fighting for the next positions.

I think Everton and maybe Spurs will be somewhere there too. Looks like quite an exciting season ahead.

Bird poo lands in Man U star's mouth

With the likes of Luke Shaw and Robin van Persie injured, Manchester United began Louis van Gaal's reign in underwhelming fashion.

The Red Devils went down 2-1 to Swansea City in their first match of the Premier League season at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal's nightmare was nothing compared to Ashley Young's, though.

Early in the match, Young was minding his own business, enjoying having no foreign substances in or and around his mouth area, when this happened:

<iframe class="vine-embed loaded " src="https://vine.co/v/M37F1mB5IzB/embed/simple" frameborder="0" height="600" width="600"></iframe><script async="" src="//platform.vine.co/static/scripts/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

That appeared to be heat-seeking bird poo landing right on Ashley Young's mouth, which prompted everyone who saw it to feel unclean.

But closer inspection of higher resolution video appears to show the foreign substance landing behind Young just as he spits up a bit.

Still kind of gross, but not forever unclean. And that explains why Young didn't immediately vomit everywhere for the rest of the match.

Man United went on to lose 2-1 and Louis van Gaal would probably prefer bird poo in the mouth and three points than a loss and no bird poo at all.

Looks like Tony Pulis influence has rubbed off despite his departure.
